So I was looking and noticed that there were posts talking about oil prices and all other things such as that, but nothing for just a general talk about Babylon 5. So I would like to get some discussions started about the series and the holes (though not very many) that were left behind. Such as how did they cure the plague that the Drakh infested Earth with? I never found any answer to this; the series Crusade never explained it to my knowledge. Also, what do you guys think caused the Great Burn that was seen in the last episode (I believe) in Season 4?

One side note. Myself and a few other people are going to try and create an active fan-made website for Babylon 5 to just talk about anything. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING, please let me know. We are trying to corridinate everything and would like to get it up and running.

I greatly enjoyed B5 when it originally aired.  That is, until the lackluster made-for-TV movies that followed Season 4.  And then I really didn't care for Season 5 or Crusade.

Earlier this year, I decided to revisit the series because there were a few posters claiming B5 was superior to DS9.  And while most of those posters had never even watched DS9 (for shame!), they made me curious to see if my assertion that DS9 was superior really stood up.

And yes, my opinion remains the same.

Please realize I really enjoy Seasons 1-4 of B5, but the characterization is sometimes a bit too melodramatic, the dialogue is a little too stilted, the acting is often downright terrible, and the special effects have a hard time holding up to today's standards.  Plus, once you're past the first season, the story just barrels along with very little downtime for the characters (or viewer).

Then the war...

Well, first of all, it's interesting that we really only witnessed two battles in the entire Shadow War.  And its ending, while interesting to be sure, was a bit anticlimactic after that much build-up.  We also never really got a glimpse of how the war was really affecting everyone; there was just a bit too much "hoo-rah!  righteousness!  justice!  fight, fight, fight!"

DS9, on the other hand, really took its time to create a complex political atmosphere before launching into the Dominion War, showed us actual battles, and let us get into the minds of our hurt and wounded protagonists.

But again, I do like B5!  The Starfury design is awesome, some of the characters were brilliant, and the show was hardly ever boring.  I just think JMS took on too much work trying to write the entire series himself, as it really shows on repeated viewings...

And here's a question for all of you B5 fans:

Who was your favorite character?

Mine will probably be controversial...  I really dug Sinclair.

IMO, B5 was awesome and better written than Star Trek (yea, I know it's sacrilidge saying it here on this site.....)  I was a Trekkie first and that's where I've sunk my time & money.  If JMS decided to actually grow the B5 universe, I'd definitely be supportive.

I hate to admit it, but I agree with you Fleet Admiral_BamBam 100%. Babylon 5 (in my opinion) was better than Star Trek. I was a Babylon 5 fan first (even though I saw Star Trek beforehand) and I guess you could say I got sucked into it.

I don't have a favorite character in B5. I really liked Delenn and Ivanova, but I do like Lennier to.

Now what I want is a large B5 model (with the rotating cylinder)

I think Delenn is my favorite - that calm, reserved strength of hers the demanded respect.

You know, I think I always had a bit of a crush on Delenn when I was younger.  She was pretty, she wore gorgeous silky (Asian-inspired) costumes, she had a soothing soft-spoken voice, she had an exotic accent, and she was feminine, yet tough!  All in all, Delenn was a very romantic character.

And when Mira Furlan showed up on Lost?  (In a drastically different role?  Ha!)  I remember being thrilled.

The 4th season was suppose to be the end of the series, then they threw together season 5 which wasn't good, but If Babylon 5 was so great, how come no ones talking about it now ? no one wants to bring it back, it was never a huge hit to begin with.
