^ How do you know all that? I believe none of that was stated in canon, though I could be wrong. And we know that there were way more than two Galaxy class ships. There was the Enterprise-D, the Odyssey, the Yamato, the Galaxy, the Venture, and the Challenger.

And the Enterprise did have its own class - the NX class from ENT.

If it had it's own class the name "Enterprise" wouldn't be so special.

>Which Enterprise?

>The original one from TOS was one of 14 in the Constitution class.

>The one in TNG was one of 2 in the Galaxy class.

>At some point after the 1st movie they did make the refit version The Enterprise class. It might not have been wiht the refit but may have been with NCC-1701-A.

>

A few corrections.

Kirk once said about the Constitution class  "theres only a dozen like her in the fleet"

Based on what we saw in TNG,DS9 and Voyager.......there may have been up to 20 Galaxy class ships made

But, just think of all the unsung heroes--not just Earthlings, but also other races--who deserve to have a ship and a class named after them!  Why should we limit ourselves to repeating a handful of names, when so many other individuals deserve to be commemorated?

Though as it's not very imaginative to have a Enterprise class. The ship from ENT wasn't the NX-class, because it was the registry-nummber NX-01 alike the Defiant started with the letters "NX".

I think the Enterprise under the command of Archer hadn't at all any name of a class.

and the Excelsior also carred the registry- NX when it was first launched.

but even that is irrelevent.

Archers ship was indeed called an NX-Class a number of times trew out the series..It was part of the NX-Project whos first ship [of a different design] was called the NX-Alpha.

Guy's really, before you try to correct others, please do some research.

Um, isn't that what I said?

I know the OP meant an "Enterprise-class", but still...the Enterprise did have its own class...

No its not.

If the Enterprise had its own class...........that means the class of the ship was called Enterprise or its the only ship of its type

which is not the case.

Just like the 1701, A,B,C,D,E.........Archers Enterprise is 1 ship of a larger number of ships in a particular class.

The reason that the Defiant was Defiant-class was that it was the first of its kind. The first Galaxy-class would have been the USS Galaxy. &c. Why the NX-01 Enterprise was named a NX-class, I couldn't say. It just was. NX became the designation for prototypes (NX-74205 for Defiant) and I would imagine that tradition derives from the original designation for NX-01 Enterprise and NX-02 Columbia etc. The tradition of naming classes after their first ship must have come in later -- some time between Enterprise's 22nd C. and TOS' 23rd.

Actually both the NX-01 Enterprise and the NX-74205 Defiant were the first of their kind. The Columbia (second NX-class ship) came a few years later but for a while the Enterprise was the only working ship of its class.

I don't think Starfleet would decide to have a prototype as their flagship, come to think of it.

In the non-canon Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise (I think that's the book) the refit style of the TMP Enterprise was the Enterprise Class. I wouldn't mind it so much, I think she deserves to have her own line.
