A couple questions about Changelings.

I know in at a couple episodes of DS9 it's mentioned that Changelings don't eat food or drink. So if they don't "eat" in the traditional sense of say humanoids how did they get the nutrients their bodies needed to survive? Were they able to somehow absorb things out of the air that their bodies could use for nourishment? Or maybe they got them some other way? Anyone have any ideas?

And here's another one. In the episode Chimaera when the changeling Laas is first met by Odo and someone else (They were in a shuttlecraft but I can't remember who the other person with Odo was) Laas flies by the shuttlecraft in a form similar to a large Earth stingray if I remember. I know that Changelings' bodies wouldn't have lungs so they don't need to breathe air like humanoids do. But how could even they survive in the extremely cold vacuum of space? Wouldn't they freeze solid and that would kill them? Does anyone have any thoughts and ideas about that? I think both questions should make for an interesting discussion.

A.Well... the simple answer is they don't need nutrients.

B.Well... "Shadowplay" suggests that if Odo were bread, he could be eaten. So, if a changeling were in the shape of a ship, it should be able to function like a ship.

Yeah I remember an episode where Odo was drinking. But he was telling someone that he formed part of his body into a mug and the "drink" was actually liquid from his own body that he simulated as a drink which he then just reabsorbed into himself. It just seems strange that you could have these living beings who would never have to eat or drink and they'd never die. I thought maybe it might've been mentioned in a book or something about how it is that Changelings were able to get sustenance. It just seems unbelievable to me that any alien race would never have to eat or drink and they wouldn't die no matter how different they were from humanoids. But the show was always kind of vague about their exact physiology.

Remember when Jadzia was going through her Zhian'tara in "Facets", Curzon & Odo merged and we saw Odo/Curzon drinking.

Perhaps they use photosynthesis.  Another question to ask would be:  How did Laas move in space?

How DID Laas move in space? That is a good question!

How does any of the other natural being move in space?

The other thing I wonder is how fast he was moving as if he was only going at impulse, it would take far to long to get anywhere.

Changelings don't need nutriens for the manner that they don't eat, they survive.

The Chimera is a imitated lifeform so it wouldn't be frozen in space.

For the record the other person was Chief Miles O'Brien.

Odo wasn't absorbed ether the coffee was when he reabsorbed it.

There's an episdoe in the seventh season about a changeling named Laas, and when O'Brien and Odo encountered him, he was a ship. So, yeah. it would be. And I think the changelings are like the Borg in the sense that they don't need to eat. They get all the energy they need when they regenerate.
