You know, Flemish, though it is the Belgian form of Dutch is incomprehensible even to natives of Holland. I learned this when I went to Belgium last year.

actully your wrong about that.
Seeing as Picards "fantasy" family was celebrating x-mas in his "fantasy" world its obvious that Picard is some demoniation of christian.

Not necessarily. Some atheists celebrate Christmas just because they enjoy the occasion.

Well, Christmas has become mainstream and secular. For a lot of people, it doesn't have to do with religion. They celebrate Christmas because, for many people, it's a secular holiday, like the Fourth of July.

Chakotay... Sulu... hhhhheeeeelllllloooooooooooooooooo....
Hikaru is a Japanese name, with Sulu being deliberately non-specific to any nation. (And besides, he was born in San Francisco. That makes him American.)
...And Chakotay is not from India!
In any case, there are some Chinese and Indian people in Star Trek -- but proportional to the current world population, not nearly enough to be representative. (Ought to be about one in three people, with over a billion in each country now.)
ps. Hello to you too. *waves*

Actually, that's not necessarily true. I know many aetheist (or "non-observant") people who celebrate Christmas as a non-religious holiday, so anything is possible.

^ Judaism is the religion, though. But not all Jewish people practise it. I think this was a question of ethnicity, not religion.

Ah, yes. True.
Well, then I will just say this: not every single nationality is represented in Star Trek, so I suppose Jews were just one of those nationalities.
I'm not in an uproar because there are no Czechs or Slavs portrayed in the show (as far as I know).

Aren't there already more enough series and movies with "heroic" jews in them ?
Star Trek doesn't need them, and it would detract from the franchise, look how had Battlestar Galactica and it's sequele/prequils were - IMO teh viewing public have had enough of jews in SF , the ratings indicate that is the case.
I don't think that's it at all -- It's not a matter of sci-fi having "too many" of whatever culture ~~ Ideally it would not matter either way, whether such and such a group were represented or not. Because seriously you can't please everyone. I know that the Spamalot musical claims the opposite. But it's doubtful the "heroic jews" have any more bearing on ratings than any other heroic characters.
