Would you rather have a tranporter or a replicator

If you could own either a transporter to tranport you anywhere in the world, or a replicator to make anything (possible, anyway) appear, what would you pick?

Replicators could solve pretty much ALL of our problems today. Not enough food? Replicate more. Too much nuclear waste or CO2? Break it down and use the raw material to make a sandwitch. Politician getting on your nerves? Lure him into a replicator, break him down, and turn him into a sandwitch.

Assuming you can only replicate present day objects (Not transporters) with a replicator, I would choose transporter.

The trouble with transporters (at least, Star Trek transporters) is that the person would die from using it. Unless they can somehow survive getting ripped into trillions of peices the size of molecules.

Of course, in Trek they just say it's the same person who went in, and not "some weird copy".

Replicator, that way I could use it to make a transporter.

I thought they went hand in hand with the whole matter realignment thing.

The replicator. For an artist that could be handy.  I could get all the supplies I need including the programs for animation, get a pad est.  Now that would be nice. ;D

That's what I thought too.  I'm thinking it used transporter technology - but you still need raw material stock for things to be made from.

Transporter because technically they're the same, except the TP breaks stuff down on the quantum scale. Anything I replicate with a TP would be a more "perfect" copy as opposed to replicated matter which can potentially show flaws.

And I can also grab a lock of my hair and make myself young again. Or split myself into two people. I'd totally do myself. With enough tinkering, I could potentially transport to a mirror universe. And do myself again, but kinkier.

My goal of course would be a self-replicating transporter. Considering the way they show it to work it could potentially be done. And of course with the replicator comes a slew of other treknologies that could be whipped up at the touch of a button; phasers, tricorders, hypos, communicators, and even a chocolate mousse that would knock Troi flat on her hiny.

If I really wanted to I could also loop the transporter and wake up instantaneously (from my perspective) 100 years later. Hope that nothing goes wrong.

I'll just replicate my ass a force field.
