Both Crusher and Janeway - but voted for the latter.

I really would have liked Janeway as a strong female lead more if she didn't make so many foolish and contradictory decisions. I could write a whole post on that, but I'll just leave it there.

T'Pol and Seven, let's face it were just eye candy there to spout out technobabble lines in the plot. Those suits they were forced to wear, sure they looked good, but they really set women's rights back a few centuries.

Jadzia was just too bipolar as if the writers couldn't decide what they wanted to do with her. She's calm and serious one episode, sleeping around the next, playing Tongo with Quark the one after that.

Ezri, maybe I'd have liked her more if she got more time, but her identity issues were just annoying. Season 7 of DS9 was so drama filled, every time they forced her back story on you, it just felt like she was distracting the audience from the main plot.

Uhura- Really just a glorified extra. I have nothing against her, but the fact that she didn't even get a first name until the recent movie is telling.

Crusher- Nothing against her, but they needed a doctor and she was it. She never really contributed much except when the plot has a disease or someone getting hurt. Leaving out the whole resigning Starfleet to sleep with a ghost thing.

Torres- She really was a self-parody. Well she goes around growing and snapping at everything. Heck, full blooded Klingons aren't as tempermental and violent as she is. Really not sure what Janeway was thinking when she put her in charge of engineering, when she got so angry she punched another officer just the day before.

Troi- She wasn't even good at her own field of expertise. Telepathy and revealing dresses were all she was good for.

Kira- She got my vote. A strong female lead that isn't a self-parody and isn't just there blatantly as a romantic interest or eye candy.

Personally, I think T'Pol and Seven are among the best characters in their respective series. They were developed very well, and they ended up becoming much more than "eye candy". But I agree about the suits.

Calling a girl tough enough to survive years in a terrorist resistance cell whiney takes a lot of audacity.

Exactly. Thanks RStar17. Kira definitally kicked butt. Probably my favorite character in all of Star Trek. Nana Visitor is also the cutest person ever. She made this little cooking show with her sister a year ago called Kitchen Witches on YouTube, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_CD_qlQLwU If you watch till about 2 minutes, they start dancing!

I liked Kira a lot in the first two or three seasons. After that I lost interest.

Ezri was a very strong character -- stronger, IMO, than Jadzia -- but she didn't get enough time. They should have killed Jadzia sooner!

I voted for T'Pol, as I think she is one of the most complex and dynamic characters in the franchise. She also managed to rise above the "eye candy" role she was originally saddled with. There were moments where I actually thought Blalock's performance was on a par with Nimoy's or Spiner's, which is more than I can say for most of the other actors.

Honourable mention goes to Pulaski and Ro.

@ServalanFan: Unless I'm mistaken, you haven't seen all of Deep Space Nine, which may cloud your opinion of the character of Kira.  I think saying that Kira whined about everything until the sixth season is bit of an exaggeration.  In fact, I have trouble remembering an instance in which she "whined" at all after season 3.  However, I can see how some would dislike her negativity in early seasons.  It took time for me to fully appreciate Nana Visitor's portrayal (I wasn't a fan of the masculine haircut and shoulder pads).  I grew to like the fact that she started out as abrasive and embittered.  That's what made her progression so interesting to watch.  She transformed from a tormented former- freedom fighter to a compassionate, level-headed leader with a spiritual side.

As far as I'm concerned, Kira Nerys is easily the best written, developed, and acted female character in the franchise.  You can really tell that Nana Visitor put great care and effort into her role.  Also, Kira is the center of many of DS9's -and the entire franchise's- best episodes like "Duet," "Necessary Evil," "Return to Grace," "Rocks and Shoals," "Chimera," and "Tacking into the Wind."  I could go on and on about how much I adore this character!

Jadzia Dax was implusive and could be disagreeable, but she knew what she wanted and went for it. She was loyal and trustworthy, and always did what she felt was right.

Definitely Kira.  She was one of the strongest female characters to ever appear on TV.

Ah the future, where mini-skirts, skin-tight suits and low-cut suits are the norm. Space, the final frontier... setting women's rights back 300 years.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't judge a character on her costume alone. Seven of Nine and T'Pol could have worn burlap sacks and still been strong characters. The fact that all you see is the cleavage and the catsuits is a little disturbing.

My Answer comes from continuity and the need for a new TV Series ! I agree with OtakuJo that Kira Nerys is the most interesting and Deep Space 9 left her in an unkown position at the end of the Series . But I voted for T'Pol , because I'm always interested in the Human/Vulcan and Federation Relationship . She was pivotal in that scenario , and it would have been interesting to see her mature as well as to see Humanity through her eyes . Other than T'Pol and Kira Nerys , Ezri Dax is 3rd choice and I could see a whole Series about her life . I've left off , Uhura because it's confusing with 2 Uhura's , now , and 70f9 who is a gratuitous fembot for the boys !
