a healthy human can bench press 150% of his weight.  A 200lb human can bench press 300lbs.  A vulcan has three times the strength of a human.  This means that a 200lb vulcan can bench press 900lbs.  There are some humans who, through the use of steroids and intense training programs, can bench press around 900lbs.  That means, if a vulcan trained like that, he could bench press 2700lbs. This means that a vulcan could bench press a Honda Civic.

In the episode "take me out to the holodeck", Sisco mentions that the vulcan team is much stronger, with the exception of Worf.  Let's assume that this means that Klingons have the same strength as vulcans, which is three times that of a human.  Worf is in pretty good shape and trains vigorously.  It stands to reason that he could bench press close to 1000 lbs.

I understand that strength is not the only measure of fighting ability, but it is pretty important.  That's why boxing, MMA, and wrestling have weight classes.  weight is a good proxy for stength, assuming similar levles of body fat.  This is why female athletes will never be able to compete with male athletes in combat sports-- at the same weight, men have much lower levels of body fat that women.  A 112lb male wrestler is much stronger than a 112lb female wrestler.

Considering the importance of strength in combat, how could any human possibly win a hand to hand fight against a vulcan or a klingon?

Sheer bloody luck, just a touch of hero bias, and a mild anaesthetic in the opponent's drink.

The same kind of thing is true of the Jem'Hadar. I guess it's plot armour.

Ok....most 200 pound humans CANNOT bench press 300 pounds. If the person in a good shape, and weight lifts regularly, then yes I would think a 200 pound human MIGHT be able to bench press 300 pounds. I lifted and trained off and on over the years. Never made it over 300 pounds on a press. I could dead lift about 800+ though with my legs easily though.

Also, flexibility is something that can be at odds to sheer strength. Many of the Roid freaks aren't flexible at all. It can be a balancing act. Someone that might have the best shot is someone with a physique like a gymnast. They are very strong, but also very flexible.

Mindset is also a HUGE consideration as well as fighting experience. Kirk should never have been able to get in as many shots with Spock as he did assuming all that you posted is true.

One time in college, when I was weighlifting with some friends, everyone congratulated me for benchpressing 250 pounds, since I weighed 175 pounds.

Another guy there asked what was so great about that because he did that all the time.  A friend of ours answered, "Yes, but you weigh 300 pounds!"

I weigh 155lbs and can bench 250lbs three times unassisted, five times with some help.  A healthy adult male, in good shape, should be able to bench 150% of his body weight.  Do the math.  If he weigh 200 lbs, he should bench 300lbs.

Does it actually state explicitly that Vulcans have 3x the strength of a human?

If so, I'm probalby not intended to be an exact measure as you've extrapolated. It's probably just a factor of muscle density and physical endurance due to the harsher climate and thinner atmosphere of Vulcan.

Kassidy Yates says it to Ben Sisko in Take Me Out to the Holosuite. But she's not a scientist in a scientific setting or anything so there was no impetus for her to be particularly precise. I think even without the calculations we can take it to mean "pretty bloody strong."
