>I think the Beatles did something kind of similar with John Lennon's voice in Free as a Bird. (Although they may have used actual recordings for this.)

>

Demo tapes that John Lennon had recorded of "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love" were used to create the "new" Beatles songs released on the Anthology discs. The vocal was isolated, and the rest of the tracks featuring the at-that-point surviving Beatles were built around that track.

Ah yes I seem to recall something of the kind.

Aside from the obvious logistical issues (see earlier) that I still think would reduce the chances of this happening to almost zero, I do also believe that attempting to make more TOS with the same "actor" images would not be a good idea. For reasons already mentioned by others on this thread.

Wow, I appreciate each and every comment, and  no offence, but you are the most closed-minded bunch I have ever encountered. Time for you start "thinking outside of the box". The dawn of long dead actors making a comeback into tv and movies are already in its beginning stages.

It will be more mainstream once the costs come down as well as the technology improves. It will be easier to create such productions. And we wont have to watch cartoons as Star Wars is doining now. We will be seeing live action as if the original actors were still alive.

I think If the studio produced just one episode to prove that it could be done, you would not be so quick to dismiss this.

It would be looking at a long lost episode....But that is just my belief. And as for the fan produced stuff.....I think that is all great and I encourage it.

I have to admit that it's an idea that I initially thought A LOT about...especially after seeing what they did with Jeff Bridges in the Tron sequel.

Now, though...I think it's one of those things that needs to be left alone. It just seems a little too touchy for my taste...and I don't think a studio would take such a huge risk.

Still...a fascinating idea.

Creepy idea.  Zombie DeForest Kelly?  No thank you.  TOS is done, let it rest.

For what? Not believing that this is the most brilliant whacky OMG can't wait idea we've ever heard? Hey if they made it, I'd watch it. But all I'm giving here are honest answers and in truth the idea does not stir up much enthusiasm in me.

the actors aren't needed, we accepted the new movie and didn't wanted Zachary Quinto to wear a digital mask of Nimoy.

you can get the same by making a new series with new characters (a la phase 2).

finally on a plus side the few details you get from "This are the voyages" up to that mmh... situation... with V'ger are comments about the importance of it's missions, it would be cool to know why they were so important.

Okay, thanks for taking the time to make comments. But I guarantee you that you have not heard the end of this. This could just the beginning.

That sounds like a threat...

I personally think TOS is over, and trying to revive it in its original form would be both futile and sacriligeous. It's already a classic; better to quit while ahead.

Besides, I have a feeling that the majority of potential viewers wouldn't be interested in anything other than sex and explosions.

People said that when there was talk of remastering and now everyone seems happy it was done. Some wish more was done. I think if you sat down and watched an episode of the classic series that you had not seen before..and it was well done...you would love it and want more....But that's just my own opinion on the matter.

You are probably right on that LOL.

As for the new timeline star trek movies...I love them and I look forward to the next. They have a winning cast, producers and storelines...Actractive to a new younger audience as well as the "die-hard" fans like me and you.

I was going to do a more well defined post full of insight and oberservation....but I couldn't get past "logical" and "risk-free"

"Excuse me? We give you our honest feelings on the matter, and because many don't agree with you, you insult us?"

It was an observation and I truly did not mean to disrespect anyone, nor to insult."

Sounds like most of you don't think the technology exists yet to create additional original series episodes using the likeness and voices of the cast when they were young and to do it properly and you may be right.....for now

Well, anything's possible, given enough time.

The people who argue about lack of tension could use the same argument for star trek 2009. Not that the characters are inhabiting an already explored universe, but that they are inhabiting one that is (according to bob orci) completely separate and differential to the prime universe, in effect rendering whatever happens in it completely useless to the history of the characters we are culturally attached to, thus taxing the audience to care either way about these characters (not that this is the only problem with the characters by far).
