Instead of that comedian who was horrible at teaching Data on how to be funny I think the director of the episode should of put the following comedians in there.

1. Jerry Seinfeld

2. George Lopez

3. Bill Cosby

4. Jay Leno

5.Eddie Murphy

6. Jon Stewart

7. Chris Rock

8.Richard Pryor

9.Billy Connolly

Opinions?

Billy Connolly!

Inappropriate for the tone of Star Trek -- but it would have been SOOOO funny!

Actually, I'm in favour of cutting the entire episode! Unfunny comic, Okona, all of it.

Back then, I might have said Dennis Miller, given his propensity for obscure allusions.  That could have been interesting for Data to try to emulate.  Of course, I would hate for him to be in an episode now, given that he has since jettisoned some gray matter for the sake of his political leanings.

It would have been a good cameo since he was a Trek fan anyway. Might have overshadowed the episode at the time though.

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

I suppose part of the point of the episode was that Data had no knowledge of any comedians, and neither does a ship's computer, so it seems fitting he should be stuck with a rather poor choice for the job?

But, I would have been happier with someone who was...funny.

Lol.

Got to say Jerry Seinfeld.
