Whatever the original purpose of the thread/poll, Sisko is the captain that would have me requesting a transfer the fastest.  He let his officers run off on whatever errands they want.  As someone pointed out in another thread about Jadzia, Sisko did nothing after she left in Blood Oath, and as I have mentioned in other posts, Worf left his post as a StarFleet officer to run missions with Klingons on at least 3 occasions during a war.  He did this after reprimanding O'Brien for saving a life (Tosk) without leaving the station, and made a very inappropriate comment about O'Brien's wife in the process.  Sisko let one of his crew bleed to death in The Ship as he and Worf kept going outside to negotiate, repeatedly passing by the spot where the medkit had been dropped by someone who had been shot and died immediately.  Sisko then abandoned his post because, during the course of the war, he lost a friend.  In the series that actually had scenes devoted to discussing casualty reports to show tha war is messy, and people lose friends, Sisko got special treatment & walked away, appropriating a military craft in the process.  Dialogue at the beginning of season 7 indicated that he had been gone for months before he finally got up from that piano, where he would have stayed had it not been for the wormhole entities rolling that ball off of it.  If Sisko was so important to the war effort, why didn't the Dominion defeat the Federation while Sisko was busy playing the piano?

>And W.T. Riker, please don't act like you're a victim. I mean, you've already placed yourself in the "seriously uncool" category by coming onto this board to start a poll you knew would elicit a controversial response.

>And then to tell others to leave you alone or just leave?!?

>You are the very definition of "troll."

>

ok, is that not the whole point of the board? to create controversy? I talked to all my trek friends, and some agree with me, some don't. I merely wanted to see who agrees with me! and I did not ask people to leave me alone or just leave! i just meant that they were persecuting me for my opinion that sisko is the worst, and if they didn't agree with me, they could say so and get on with their lives! that's why i made the poll, and said that my PERSONAL opinion was that he was the worst!

DEFINITION:In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

I was merely stating an opinion, looking for other's opinions. I was not intentionally ticking people off (although I also have a talent for that as well ).  I could just as easily have posted a board that I knew everyone would agree with, but where's the sense in that? if I knew everyone's reactions, there would be no point. besides, knowing how people respond to anything I say or do, even if I had said Sisko was best, there would be an instant uproar from fans of VOY, TOS, and TNG, etc. I can't please everyone.

I don't think I've ever seen an episode where Janeway or Kirk single handedly defended a space station from 1,000 enemy ships.

I don't think I've ever seen an episode where janeway or Kirk were ever in command of anything but a starship!  seriously, though...

not as far as I know.

And I thing the problem here is with your characterazation of Sisko as weak.............when all you have described so far falls more into the catagory of "taste, likes, dislikes".

Fine, you dont like Sisko, not everyone does. But I dont see how anyone can describe the character as a weak person.

OK, first of all, don't call me Mr. Riker. Second of all, that definition states said troll must do things intentionally(agressive comments, provoking emotional response etc.) INTENTIONALLY! i did not, thus rendering you point moot.

Yknow what, screw it. I'm sick and tired of arguing with you guys and you telling me what i am and am not, and what I did and did not mean. until you just state your opinion as to whether or not you agree with me, AND ONLY THAT, I am not going to return to this board. this is getting old.

Okay, first of all, I think you and your little friends, W.T. Riker, have seriously weakened the discourse around here with your trivial and often inflammatory thread topics and scattershot posts. But hey, that's just my opinion. I'm not intentionally trying to aggravate you.

Personally, I say your posts are weak sauce.

But again, I'm not trolling. I've talked to my friends, and they agree. And isn't the point of this place to create controversy?

But hey, I'll try to be civil...

Look at it this way: I head over to a board devoted to Marvel Comics' X-Men. Now, all of the regular posters over there LOVE the X-Men and enjoy discussing aspects of the various characters, plotlines, artists, writers, individual issues, etc. Then I create a thread titled "The weakest team of all the Marvel teams?" and proceed to type my first post "Personally, I say 'yes.'"

When others start asking why I would visit their thread just to post something like this, I simply respond that the Avengers and Fantastic Four are SO much better. And then tell the other posters to stop picking on me. And I use lots and lots of exclamation points.

Now, really, what was the purpose of my thread topic? To create fun discourse? Nope. Because as soon as someone starts defending the X-Men, I just jump in, make a snarky remark, talk up the Defenders, and leave. Oh, and I remind the other posters to leave me alone!

You starting to see the big picture now, kid?

Just use some common sense and display a little empathy.

Cool?

>However, Sisko's infulence over his immedite sphere, DS9 and the Bajoran system, is more limited than the power the other captians had over their ships.  On the Enterprise, the buck stopped with Kirk.  On DS9, the buck might have stopped with Sisko, or with Kira, or the Kai, or Odo, or whomever depending on the circumstance.

I would have to disagree with that point in both respects. Ultimately all the captains had final say with their crews (Sisko did have initial difficulties with Odo and Kira -- primarily because their loyalties were, justifiably, not first and foremost to Starfleet.) However, they and Sisko all deferred to others on their specific field of expertise.

@Riker: The challenge still stands. What actual evidence do you have to justify your opinion that Sisko was the weakest captain?

I have no evidence, as it is my personal opinion. it is my opinion, and i merely intended to see if anyone agreed with that opinion, end of discussion. I can see that you don't, and that's all I wanted to see.  thank you for your opinion.

Well no that's true I don't agree. I respect all opinions. However, your own assertion would carry a lot more weight if you were to articulate (with evidence) why it is you feel that way.
