Later shows forgot a lot about the original.
Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Even the TOS movies ignored important plot elements from the show like the Organian Peace Treaty.

To be fair, most of the androids we saw on TOS were crap, and about thirty seconds away from self-destruction at any given moment. Ask them "When is a door not a door?" and their heads would explode.

TNG would have been loads cooler if they had replaced Data with Ruk.

When the Enterprise went in for its overhaul, the tech teams neglected to backup most of the files. That would then explain why Riker recalled something as obscure as someone showering in his or her clothing. There simply wasn't much else to remember.

In TOS episode "Requiem for Methuselah" Flint created the android Rayna, probably far more advanced the Data himself given Flints genius, she simply could not integrate the conflicts of emotions given the short time she had to deal with them choosing her own self being and love of both Kirk and Flint.
Perhaps one of the most powerful emotional stories of humans and androids seen in Star Trek, apparently a reason why it was never address or acknowledged later on in TNG.

We see Tellarites in TOS. We don't see them in TNG. Would this also be an inconsistency?

Yes she did. She was killed by the crysatile entity. The andriod reproduction of her survived, but only so long as she remained unaware that she was an android. But that's the catch... If she became aware of what she was, she would self-terminat.

Perhaps Data is the only android worth remembering because he's the only one who can survive illogic and is impervious to 'love'. But then again Data never faced James Kirk in a logic fight. |
Umm, Julia didn't die (or at least android Julia) she was still alive when the show ended.

Wrong again.
To beging with "mother" was in qute marks for a reason....so as to indicate we were talking about the "mother" he actully met, which was the android.
2nd, even if she found out she was an android she wouldnt self terminate,...she would only shut down temporaly.
