she was pretty near death when Worf changed his miond and went back for her.
All they needed to do was make it that he was a few minutes too late.

That. No question that's what they should have done. They degraded the honorable Worf by having him puss out and not complete the mission. IF she had to so, that's when she should have died.
Then the trill could have died (not able to get a new host in time). Then we all wouldn't have been pissed that that frakin idiot Dukat killed her for nothing and we wouldn't have had to hate Ezri.

Agreed about Change of Heart. Worf abandoning the mission seemed un-Klingon. To him, dying while attempting to carry out the mission is a good way to go. She would go to Stovokor.
I actually liked Ezri. Alternatively, Worf could have left Jadzia, fetched the spy, then come back to her freshly dead body. Worf could do field surgery, pack the symbiont in his backpack, and pop it into stasis as soon as they got back to the runabout, and Bashir could put it in a new host when they got back to the station.
