NO

Perhaps I should have added, and say why or why not?

Why not?

I'm not sure Q would really be suitable as a major antagonist (or even protaganist) in a full movie; in an episode or double bill yes, but I'm not sure the character would be able to carry a whole movie.

He'd work as a plot exposition device, but then it seems a bit wasted - and to be honest there would be much simpler plot exposition devices that required less explanation.

Oddly, he would have actually been perfect in Generations - he could have replaced Guinan in the whole Nexus explanation scene (albeit delivering the information in a completely different way).

I actually found myself laughing about that idea! Although Guinan fitted better in that scene (she being an established character in the movie and of course El Aurian too), it would have been so funny to see how Q would have interacted with Picard.

I can see where you are coming from however -- that he's not so much a whole-movie type of character as one more likely to appear in occasional scenes.

It would be cool to see Q again, but unfortunately having him back now hits the same sorts of problems that Brent Spiner had with Data - John de Lancie's obviously aged since we last saw Q, and it's a bit of a difficult write-around for a supposedly immortal character.

Some sort of animated or CGI series however would be a perfect place to be able to pull off a reappearance of Q - indeed I believe that John de Lancie's actually doing some voice work for a cartoon at the moment, so he'd definitely be up for doing something like that for Star Trek.

Interesting -- he's reprised the role of Q in audiobooks and PC games. The other question is, and I know it's sacrilege and all lol, does it necessarily have to be John de Lancie in the role. After all a) other roles have been recast before, and b) The Q are a group of characters, and we have seen others from the continuum.

Seeing a bit more of the other Q would be a good direction to keep things fresh, though I'm not sure how easy it would be to find someone able to emulate John de Lancie - he has such distinctive vocal mannerisms that he'd be a tough act to follow.

His ability to play such smarmy, arrogant characters without just being a complete ham is quite unique, to the point that he seems to keep getting type-cast; his black-ops agent character on Stargate SG-1 certainly had this persona and his current voice-acted cartoon character - in My Little Pony of all things! - appears to be a condescending, trickster-style villain in the vein of Q.

Hilariously, his My Little Pony character's set-up is actually written in such way that it could genuinely be Q himself - he shares many of Q's reality bending skills, modus operandi and personality, and it wouldn't surprise if this was a deliberate nod on the writers part...

I think it is a great idea to introduce Q in a movie ....

Oh, yeah, Q needs a movie! He was just super awesome, and he so needs a movie role.

He could certainly jump from one to the other at will. I'd have to say he's probably pan-dimensional as well, from what evidence we have.

There is a simple answer to this problem.  First, John de Lancie is too old.

More importantly, put Trelane on the big screen.  It was obvious that he was the first Q attempt by Roddenberry prior to Encounter at Farpoint.  I'd LOVE to see the JJ crew take a single charecter from the orignial series, tweak it and make it epic.  Sort of like what was done with Khan originally.  Oh well, there is always one more movie to try this experiment.

John de Lancie's sort of aged out of the role to be an omnipotent "god".  They could explore the Q Continuum but I think that the Q we know and love is retired.

for a movie Q....we need to see a darker Q. one not so whimsical with humanity...like in "Q who"...not to test us against a foe....but for our very selves. a very definitive and graphic star trek: encounter at farpoint

One damn minute, Admiral.
