You see. There you go not thinking for yourself again. A world wide flood has in fact been disproven, just look at the facts objectively and try to reason it out. You know,as you suggest to our democrat friends,do the reaserch. The same goes for the Adam and Eve myth, try being objective. As for saying that something came from nothing, well, nobody claimed this. The big bang theory basically states that everything in existance(space, time, energy)was crunched down to a very tiny point and then inflation happened. You might ask "what was before this tiny point consisting of everything?" In case you asked this i will inform you that it like standing on the north pole and asking "in what direction is north?" Everything from nothing as if like magic is actually what creationists claim. This god fellow just snapped his fingers and everything just was-compleaty illogical. I will ask you a question that I asked as a child. Where did god come from? You may answer with something like he always was and always will be or some alpha and omega comment but is it not at least possible that the universe(for all intents and purposes)was always here and will always be here. I will never try to prove that god does not exist as the existance of god is unknowable however much of the bible can be and has been disproven. Think for yourself. It is critical to your individual liberty.

You have more faith than I do in believing that everything came from nothing.

Think of it this way - can a simple life form, say an amoeba create something as simple as a pocketwatch? Of course not! But you're telling me that nothing can create something.. and not only something, but something extremely complicated as many, many life forms....

Remember watching TNG: "Wo Watches The Watchers"? Remember when Picard was talking about Nuria who thought Picard was a god and how he responded?

No, My name is Glenn Poston, and i was having a dificult time posting from Facebook. Yet still have a little trouble, so it must be sytem on my end. It is interesting that you ask that question.

Anyway, i thought you two were a little off topic, and did not want to see pages of thoughts mixed with emotions. All religions are the same, just take a look at how the motos are the same. Anyway christianity has taken thouyghts from all religions. I mean Rome owned three continents. However spirutality plays a big role in humanity's life. How one can be a patriot and religious is a conudrum ofcourse.

I'd be a little careful about throwing my real about in this mad house.

As to the topic at hand. Sounds like the old mythos versus logos argument.

patriotism mixed with religion keeps us fighting. Islam vs Christianity was used in the twin towers. Call it war on terror, while killing so many over so few. Then i forgot is was the few who out number the many.

During the America Civil war this propaganda was used also. How else could one get another to kill his brother? To say that all those people died for a five percent tax on cotton is far better than free slaves, and then, the north still had slaves. Yet the underground railroad was  a trail to the north. UGH!

Oh this goes deep! Reminds me of a group of 8 children 7-11, and they were given a cardboard sign status titled baby, mother, astronaut, janitor, rock star, NBA player, doctor, lawyer. The assignment was to position themselves in order of their importance in front of the rest of the group. How could something so harmless turn int Star Wars and Virginia Woolf? Lets see how it turned out, shall we?

First let me say while doctors help more than they kill, they are still not flawless, and certainly not God. Heaven for bis i was right, when i tried to tell them something, and let thier ego take over, because they are so much better than i am.

"11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister[d] or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?"

13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them."

So the astronaut steps up and say's; "im first because im going places, where the rest of you cant go yet. And, besides, im going to try and find us another place to live, cause earth is too crowded.

Rockstar steps up and pushes astro boy back to second. Im already in outerspace and i make the most money, and could buy you as my pilot on my private jet.

next comes the NBA player. I think i should go first. I make just as much money as rockstar and i play in font of a big crowd every night, all season, doing something physical, which is far better for you. Up walks the "doctor" who makes a run at first. I should go first because i fix all of you when you're injured or sick, and i make good money too.

up walks the lawyer for the best of the best, because i can keep you in jail or out, and you have to pay me all your money. Up walks mother. I really should go first, because i brought you into this world. Her comes baby. i should go first because we were all babies before we were anything else. That still leaves the janitor role. As usual they know better than to try to go to the front. Those who play that role dont try, because they'll be laughed at. as soon as they speak they are laughed at or poked fun at so much, that they are too embarrassed to continue. Even though the game is voluntary. Every time the game is played janitor is automatically number eight.

At the end of the seminar they children are reminded of how they were supposed to position themselves in order of importance, instead of the dog eat dog, king of the mountain. All that was required to do was hold hands and stand in front of the group in a circle of mutual respect.

For there will never be a person who is more important than any other person, no matter how they look and no matter what kind of work they do. Each of them is as valuable and worthwhile as any other person. They sai they only heard that in church, and that it was a shame they couldn't see this ourselves. Its because we dont do as we are told, but what we see. We live in a narcissistic society. Dont confuse narcissism with healthy self esteem. It would seem that the janitor has a self esteem problem, wouldnt you say say?

1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—

even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Do Everything Without Grumbling

12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[c] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Timothy and Epaphroditus

19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. 21 For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
25 But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. 26 For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety. 29 So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him, 30 because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me

1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

4 You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[c]

7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister[d] or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?

Boasting About Tomorrow

13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them

I see why all subjects come back to religion. This goes right along with the topic it was split from. Yet politics and religion do not mix, but what about poiltics and spirituality?

Stand Up, Be Bold, Speak Truth

Have you ever heard someone say something and you just want to scream at them? They are on TV so they will never hear you but you just want to raise your voice in frustration and let them have a piece of your mind? This happened to me last week and as you read this you may want to do the same to me. You may be yelling at your monitor wishing I could hear you.

Last week Franklin Graham was a guest on Morning Joe. The panel of talking heads jumped right in and asked him if he thought President Obama and some of the Republican candidates were Christians. In my opinion Mr. Graham tried to be politically correct and say that he did not know, he said the President says he is and he would just have to take his word (Rick Santorum said the same thing when he was asked about the president's faith). When they asked Mr. Graham about Rick Santorum he basically said the same thing. He said he thought Santorium was because he said he was, Mr. Graham said Mr. Santorum seemed more sincere about his beliefs. They went on to ask if he thought Mitt Romney was also a Christian. Mr. Graham tried to dance around this one and say that he is Mormon and their beliefs did not line up with ours.

Here are my two points of contention with all of this. (This is not a bash the President post) First, it seems to me that those who call themselves Christians and find themselves in a position of leadership within the church more times than not refuse to do what Paul tells us to do in I Corinthians 5:

I Corinthians 5: 9-13 - 9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”

This passage is dealing with a specific sexual sin within the church but the implication is much broader than this. What Paul is saying is that if someone calls himself a Christian (brother) and is living a life that does not line up with the scriptures we are to judge him. If he refuses to repent and change his was he is to be kicked out of the church. How many of you who read this go to a church that practices this. Neither President Obama nor any of the other candidate go to the same church as Mr. Graham so he technically could not kick them out of his church, however, I believe Mr. Graham not only has the right to judge them but also a responsibility to judge them, to call them out when they fight for or stand for something that runs contrary to scripture. Mr. Graham had a right and a responsibility to tell the panelist that anyone (not just politicians) who claims to be a Christian but lives a lifestyle that runs counter to what the Bible teaches casts serious doubt on, or limits his being able to say "yes, I believe he is a Christian".

Second, Mr. Graham seemed unwilling to share John 14: 6 and Acts 4:12 to reinforce his beliefs.

John 14: 6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4: 12 - Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

I think we have far too many "pastors" who refuse to speak truth to a lost and dying world. Mr. Graham went on to get beat up pretty good towards the end of the interview. I believe that because he refused to answer the questions boldly, and he seemed to be more afraid of offending one of these men, he ended up weaving a very sticky web that he himself got caught up in it and seemed almost lost as to how to get out of it. I found myself cringing towards the end and he was being beaten up like an unprepared boxer in the ring with Mike Tyson in his prime.

I heard a guy just last week say that if you want to see just how Christian a politician is ask him one question and see how he handles it. Ask him "Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to God and anyone who rejects Christ will spend eternity in hell separated from God?" See how well a politician or a celebrity pastor handles that one.

We need more pastors like Paul, Peter and Christ who will refuse to cower under pressure, who are willing to be laughed at for speaking the truth as opposed to being laughed at because they danced around the question and created a situation that made them look foolish. Stand up, be bold, speak truth.

The kiss. That's Sgt. Brandon Morgan on the right. Dalan Wells on the left.

Since the Gay Marines Facebook page posted it on Saturday, a photo of Sgt. Brandon Morgan and his partner Dalan Wells sharing a welcome home kiss in Hawaii has been getting quite a bit of attention:

— 15,000 or so "likes."

— 2,700 or so shares.

— About 3,300 comments.

— A rapidly growing number of posts. Including one from Steve Rothaus at The Miami Herald's Gay South Florida blog with this message from Morgan:

"I'm glad I can be an inspiration to someone. Thank you so very much for sharing my story."

And a post at Joe.My.God. that has more from Morgan, including his thanks to "everyone who has responded in a positive way. My partner and I want to say thank you. ... As for the haters, let em hate."

DVIDS/YouTube

Back in December, by the way, Morgan made one of those quick videos that the Department of Defense distributes so that military personnel can say hello to friends and families during the holidays.

Also in December, two women officers shared what the Navy said was the first-ever "first kiss" at a ship's homecoming.

The "don't ask, don't tell" policy that had barred openly gay men and women from serving in the U.S. military ended last September.

Hold lives in their hands everyday, and you thnk they are greedy for wanting compensated for that? What is the appropriate income for someone who saves your life or that of your child? The same as you get waiting tables? Yeah, THAT is fair"

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I am new here also and had a little trouble at first.  I am learning though.  I login here using my Facebook account, and that seems to work well.  This forum asked me to fill in a few minor details, but it was simple.

The problem I notice is editing a comment seems to have a time limit for some reason.  Every so often, the page clears and takes me out of editing. ???

I thought the purpose of this question would be to debate the Prime Directive and who gives Starfleet the right to spy on other cultures?  Starships repeatedly violated the Prime Directive, so does this render it invalid or impractical?

It was often taken as a rule, but--like all laws--it was really intended to be a guideline.  Once you've been observed by a less-developed culture, you have altered their mindset irrevocably, although perhaps on a small scale.
