Years ago when DS9 first aired I was turned off on the series. I watched a few episodes and didnt like it. But after listening to everyones positive thoughts of the series on these boards I decided (a year ago) to give it a try. Wasnt easy dropping $300 on something you disliked once but I was firm in my decision to try it again. Well, I just recieved the Entire series yesterday. Last night I watched the first 3 epsiodes and Liked it!
So I have a whole new Star Trek series to watch .
Please no spoilers.

Have fun watching - DS9 was definitely my favourite series!
I think the main thing is to stick with it - the first couple of seasons chugged a little bit as the writers were still finding their feet and direction, but pretty quickly they hit their stride and from then on you'll be hooked!
I'd possibly also suggest avoiding this forum until you've finished though... some of the thread titles can sometimes be a bit spoilerific.

I know what you mean, I didn't care much for DS9 when it first aired either (at least the few episodes I saw). I never watched Voyager either, but I thing that was more because my schedule didn't allow it.
Thanks to Netflix though, I'm in the middle of TOS, which I haven't seen in way too long. I'm thinking when I'm done, I'm going to skip TNG (which I see all the time on reruns) and watch DS9 for the first time.

I'm with Vorta_the_point. In fact, pretty much every DS9 fan will tell you the same thing:
Your first time through? You're probably going to have a tough time with the first couple of seasons.
But be patient. Seasons 4 through 7 are INCREDIBLE.

DS9 is my favorite Trek. The first two seasons were okay at best, but the Season 2 finale will hook you for the rest of the series.

I also love DS9, and while the first two seasons were uneven, when they were good, they were very, very good. I envy you being able to watch the whole thing for the first time.

I watched DS9 when it first aired and really didn't have an opinion of it. Over the last few months, I've watched it through at least twice on Netflix and found it to be the best series of the franchise. As the show progresses it continues to improve. The last three seasons were outstanding. Most of the storylines and the acting were excellent. Enjoy watching them.

I actually am a bigger fan of DS9 I could never enjoy TNG for some reason maybe it was that there was no continuing plot.....
And you ask why nobody likes Wesley? IT IS NOT NATURAL FOR A TEEN TO COME UP WITH WAYS TO SAVE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHEN PEOPLE WITH DECADES OF TRAINING COULDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember when DS9 first aired in my country I was one of it's biggest and btw youngest fans! I remember my father came home one day from work and gave me this gift - it wasn't my birthday but it felt so for this moment in my live! We watched the newest DS9 episode (i think it was one from season 2) and than we played with the starships toys (micro machines) he gave me. oh a wonderful childhood! Same as VOY first aired. I was there when it all started and I was so fascinated!!! It was absolutely amazing and there was no other show or serie on television that was nearly like star trek! but the other side: DS9 was from monday - friday on tv when it first aired. VOY just every friday late evening!!! when both started to make vhs videos everyone of us tried to get all the missed episodes and so i found a VOY episode vhs in store that i never seen before (remember - this was in 1999/2000) and that ws soo great! unforgetable memories!!!

Watching Season 3's Explorers and I have to say that the scene with O'Brien and Barshier drinking whiskey in O'Brien's quarters was about the best scene of the series so far. It was hilarious! And I have to say that I've even had a few evenings just like that!

Enjoy - I just watched DS9 all the way for the first time (finished it 2 weeks ago). Without a doubt it is my favorite of the franchise.

I've been watching all the series in strict chronological order. I've finished TOS, the cartoon series, and TNG, and am now going through DS9 (slowly, I have a tendency to watch every episode two or three times before moving on).
I hope you're enjoying it (have enjoyed it?) as much as I.
