It's not the first time things go Alternate Universe.

May I remind you all that Captain Janeway made sure that everything that happens after Voyager will be in an alternate universe, due to her travelling back in time and screwing over the Borg-queen. This basically also means that parts of the ending of TNG (with Q and the 3 Picards) happened in the Janeway caused universe I gather. Though that can be debated ofcourse. Basically it means that the many years of travelling that Janeway shoulda done, never happened. Which on it's own may contradict some episodes in Voy ofcourse where at some point you see Voy future crewmembers.

Not to forget Captain Archer, who encountered the Temporal Cold War.

So I am kind of hoping and thinking that in the next upcomming movie, they will find away to undo the damage caused in the first movie, namely the blowing up of Vulcan.

Would be odd to nulify the whole of TNG DS9 VoY lore,... by blowing up Vulcan.

If they do not undo the blowing up of Vulcan,... I hope they will be making a 3rd one...

It seems you have a bit to learn yet, Grasshopper. Maybe you need to see the scene in The Search For Spock where McCoy is talking to the unconcious Spock after they rescue his body from the Genesis Planet. Tells you all you need to know about how McCoy feels about Spock.

McCoy does like Spock. I think Spock frustrates the hell out of him, but they do still like each other. (Have you never had a friend who just drove you to distraction sometimes?)

>I don't understand what you're saying here CleanerBreen, somehow Janeway created an AU but Abrams did not?

>I don't remember either Janeway saying they created an alternate universe. In fact didn't older Janeway say she hopes her plan drives her out of existence or something like that?

>
Old Janeway felt/hoped her past [last few years of the trip] would be wiped out when she chasnged history

JJ's film works on the theroy that time isint wiped out, but that a new branch is started.

It's canonically accepted: http://trekmovie.com/2008/12/11/bob-orci-explains-how-the-new-star-trek-movie-fits-with-trek-canon-and-real-science/

And I can also prove it within canon: during the mind-meld flashback sequence, it's explicitly stated that the Narada entered the black hole before Prime Spock did. If Nero had wiped out the original timeline, Prime Spock would have been changed with it before he could follow Nero.

Also, in VOY "Living Witness" we see the Doctor reactivated in the 31st century, 700 years since Romulus' destruction. The people and technology he recollects about Voyager are identical to those of the prime universe, which probably wouldn't be the case if he was in the new timeline.

Dude, while I PERSONALLY agree with you, you really cant 100% PROVE that to be the case.

Spock Prime may have entered the event after Nero, but he was already within the evnts grasp, which means it may have been emiting some kind of temporal feild that would have protected Spock from any changes in time.

that also doesnt prove anything

Well, I think that at least they're worth noting. And they do make sense to a certain extent.

I don't see what the fuss is about. If you don't like it, then do what I did with the Transformers; don't watch it.

I have been a fan of Star Trek for nearly all my life (i was born the same year trek premiered on NBC).  I am a TOS fan all the way, i love the original cast compare to the next generation ( no offense intended, i have nothing against next generation i think they did a great job).  OK so my thoughts on JJ's "Star Trek", in one word - Great!!  Yes i loved what JJ and crew did to the Star Trek universe, ( i know i am in the minority ), but that's OK it is MY opinion.  Does it have it's flaws yes it does (the ship for one, don't really like how they design the enterprise), But i welcome some new blood into this fantastic world that Gene created.  Plus I like JJ as a director i think he is a very talented man.. Can not wait for the 2nd film to come out... Kirk out!!
