Star Trek

Watching TAS for the first time in a while and I noticed that Chief Kyle has a mustache unlike the live action series.  And not some wimpy little one, but a full-on handlebar.  Whoa.   

Yes, the visual treatment of Kyle is bizarre, mind you when you take the Winston character from 'The Survivor' into account, they seem to think every English person is still living in the 19th century style wise - maybe that what Yanks thought in 1973

Another thing, it always makes me laugh when they show that view of the bridge from above, and Uhura literally looks like she's lying horizontal

I never got the logic of the mustache. It's so manly and extream the first time I saw the character I though "who's this guy?" and didn't recognize it was Kyle!

Yeah, I never caught that either.  But, hey, mustaches were IT in the 70s. 

I wonder if he inspired Scotty.

Maybe Scotty was envious of the 'stache.

Looked like Dum Dum Dugan of the Howlng Commandos.  Just needed a bowler hat and a Tommy Gun.

It was an ongoing but unexplained storyline. Kyle was upset that he kept getting passed over for promotion, and it seemed to him that no one ever even noticed he was there. Even his crush, the lovely Janice Rand, seemed to only have eyes for that Vulcan science officer. Well one day he decided to do something about it. He would make himself stand out by growing a mustache. It was an innocent one at first, a pencil-thin, Errol Flynn-style swashbuckler affair. But no one gave it the slightest mention. So Kyle upped the ante, letting his facial worm blossom into a full-on Dale Earnhardt NASCAR 'stache. Still nada. What you see in TAS is his latest attempt, the Dum-Dum Dugan/Wyatt Earp. Did THAT work? It did not, and just before the conclusion of the five year mission, Kyle was seen behind the transporter console with baddest of all facial configurations, the Lemmy.

Kyle had a beard in STII The Wrath Of Khan so I find his moustache in TAS to be a nice albeit slightly over the top transition from TOS Kyle.

rumor has it he smuggles tribbles under that thing....
