I watched this the other day and thought it was one of the better TAS episodes, with the Winston/alien character being quite a good one.

One thing though, it features a human and a many-tentacled shape-shifting alien having emotions for each other and I wonder if that was an influence on the Engineer chracter and the alien girl getting together (rather hilariously) in Galaxy Quest, albeit under different circumstances? If so they really DID do their research!

Sorry about the typo in the topic title, I sometimes do this on my Blackberry, which, considering this site, is something of a challenge!

I don't think Galaxy Quest took a cue from this, since it is such an obsquere reference, but hey I could be wrong. It's still a funnly little coincidence, and an even funnier scene in Galaxy Quest.

So happy I recently got it on Blueray.

Yes, you're probably right, but somehow it's almost too much of a coincidence - but yes, it makes me laugh too in the movie - along with pretty much all of the rest of it!

What part of Galxy Quest WASN'T inspired by star trek? I wouldn't question it being a source of inspiration.

I'm trying hard to answer your rhetorical question. The only thing I can come up with is Sigourney Weaver's hair color? In the extras it was explained her character was to be Brunnette but she suddenly asked to be blond, because she thought it would be fun.
