Under Starfleet rewards it says permission to unlock next rank of ships but since I'm not earning skill points anymore it seems I can't. Do I have to do those STF missions to get it? Do I want to do STF at all since all I've seen is people griping about other players who may not be skilled enough players. Why have the hassle? And what is the difference of missions that have vice admiral in brackets verses ones that don't?

Unfotunately, all the VA ships have to first be bought from the C-store with Cryptic points (which can be obtained either with real money or through the Dilithium Exchange). I just stick with my RA ship; it's just as good.

As for your final question, I think they're slightly harder when they have the [Vice Admiral] tag. I haven't experimented with that yet.

I did the explore mission first. And I had to go into the regular, accept the mission, then leave then go back into the Vice-Admiral version to get credit. That was after I was running around for awhile doing them not realizing it was counting them off for me. Very strange.

It used to be once you hit VA, you get a free ship. You need a gold account though.

I thought all VA ships had to be purchased from the C-store before they were playable. Are you thinking of RA? That was changed; now both get free ships at each rank (except VA).

But as stated, the VA ships aren't THAT special.  My engineer has a saucer seperating galaxy, but I used my dreadnaught because then I can use cannons, have a cloak, and the phaser lance.  My tact officer has a cloaking defiant but I think the multi vector promethius is better.  So although I would recommend buying one of those upper tier ships for the fun and extra abilities, the ones that used to be free aren't necessarily the best of those.

I haven't played the VA borg missions.  i understand they are ridiculously hard and require a team capable of strategizing and teamwork.  My lack of this is the same reason I never beat the crystalline entity.

I still think you should top out at Captain, or at the very least make it where you can promote your command crew to Captains of your old ships and be an Admiral of your own personal task force.

They're actually planning to add "Fleet Admiral" to the ranks, where you would be able to do just that. But I agree; it makes more sense for a Captain to investigate anomalous energy reading from NGC-4447 than an Admiral.

I was thinking about demoting myself in visuals anyway to feel a bit more right.

I agree.  Captain rank should take longer.  MR's "duty" uniform has the captain rank.

Now you too can invoke a little-known, seldom-used reserve activation clause.

I'm wondering where all this stuff do do is? All I am doing is the same stf missions and an occasional R&D. I keep hearing how there is so much more to do but I must not be finding it. Does joining a fleet unlock something?

Create an "alt" or another charectar. What I do is do some STF's and farm for dilithium in Ker'at with my main, and level up my Catian and Trill.

=D

PvP, new characters, Klingon play, replay missions, stuff like that.
