Did you find Chris Pine believable as Captain James T. Kirk or do you prefer William Shatner?

Not the best performance in the movie by any means, but I think he did a serviceable job at carrying the lead role. But then I would generally describe Shatner's Kirk as "serviceable" too.

Yes and no. Seeing that its set in a different timeline, I don't compare it to Shatner's Kirk. Chris Pine is hot!! I enjoyed his portrayal of Kirk even if he made Kirk look like a punk kid.

He did fine. In fact all of them were fine, especially the new Scotty and Chekov. Uhura and Spock were different but for the better.
I hope Karl will be more like DeForest. And Sulu..I want to see what the new kid can do with a sword in hand

I thought the all of the casting was great. Of course we cant have shatner again but Pine did a great job and he fits real good in the role.
The best casting has to be spock IMHO

Wow, some of you are really harsh.
And OtakuJo? Shatner was merely "serviceable?!?" As Bill the Cat would say... "Ack!"
Personally, I thought Chris Pine did a fantastic job as Kirk. In fact, I was really impressed by the cast overall.
But sure, I'll always consider Shatner to be the REAL Kirk.

It's my opinion -- I thought he was all right. Didn't think he sucked, and I've never been a Kirk fan. C'est la Vie.

>The rest were pale imitations of the originals especially Chris Pine. I'm not even that big a Shatner fan but he had much more depth of feeling in the role than Pine. All I thought was that Pine was some undersrving punk who wanted a captaincy before his time no matter what.
> |
I guess to be fair, the script really didn't give Pine a lot to work with as far as character development goes, beyond the whole punk delinquent on a fast track aspect. Perhaps he might be better in the next one.

I mean no insult to Shatner, but I think he was better. He did a wonderful job imitating Kirk's mannerisms--as created by Shatner. I also think he gave a little more depth of emotion. And damn but he was good to look at.

Him and the entire cast did a good job.

Punks aren't necessarily bad students...as I recall, prime Kirk cheated on Kobyashi Maru too.
I thought the new Kirk was pretty good, but he was a bit more...brash that I would have imagined. I hope he's more mature in the sequel.

Kirk got "serviced" every chance he got. I didn't like the movie, but Pine seems like a decent actor. I had actually read somewhere several years ago that they were having trouble with the idea of recasting Kirk. They wanted the character to be similar, but didn't want it to be a spoof with someone imitating Shatner.
