If I were in Starfleet, I wouldn't want any other captain. Picard is great, and I would have the utmost respect for him, but Kirk's got that larger than life personality, that gambler's instinct. I can't think of any commander I would work harder for.

Kirk was a true leader. He led his own away teams and never sent his crew into a situation he wouldn't himself have gone into.  "Lead from behind" was not his way. He was also not afraid to do what was necessary. He would gladly negotiate, but he also wasn't afraid to phaser you out of existence if you threatened his ship or his crew. He was willing to die for his crew, and offered himself several times in order that the Enterprise might go free. He could be your best friend and still function as your commanding officer and didn't necessarily have to stay at arms length from his crew. He was rock solid in the command seat, but had doubts about some of his decisions and if he was doing the right thing. I love the scene in Balance Of Terror when he confides in McCoy. Powerful. It shows he's still human, and the weight of those 430 lives that rest upon his shoulders. And, well..... he wasn't afraid to shag some green alien chicks. lol Definitely my favorite Enterprise captain!

Ahh, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold....in space.

I agree. Shatner is the only James Tiberius Kirk. Nimoy is the only Spock. Quinto and Pine were....um....

Captain Kirk is the best captain from all the series, I think. He is clever, he thinks that the good of the one outweigh the good of the many, like in "The Search For Spock". He's the best!

Kirk is a great mix of intellectual swiftness, physical fitness (complete with unique Kirk-Fu fighting style) and wry sense of humour - he can disarm (and disrobe) any female enemy, and talk any robot / computer into self-destructing within minutes. And a great ability to think out of the box, and bluff his way through
