Amazing. You can actually do everything the characters could in the shows, whether it's diverting power from the engines to the shields, deploying tactical teams to repel boarding parties, or sending duty officers on random assignments that will - more likely than not - turn them into redshirts.

I really enjoy it.  It is a great immersive Trek experience.  Though there are issues with the game and deveolpers that continually nag me, it really is fun and a great way to live your trek fantasy.  The PvP is great when there are enough people playing.  Having both ship and character customization and gameplay is great.

It just needs to focus less on war and fighting, find a way to better incorporate diplomacy and exploration.  The STO original ships are also fugly, especially the Odyssey class.

Now that it is free, I recommend all fans come in and give it a try.

I love some of the Cryptic ships. The Odyssey is great in my opinion, as are the Exeter and Emissary classes. I also have a Star Cruiser that has Avenger nacelles and pylons, and Emissary hull and saucer. It looks beautiful from the top.

I agree on the less shoot em up part. I mean really there should be some kind of diplomatic option other than phasers in every encounter.

Not to mention that an Admiral really wouldn't be doing all this stuff. And I don't like that I can't promote my officers past commander.

The only one I really like is the Excalibur, but I understand that was made by a company that was working on STO before Cryptic.  Of the others, I like some of the nacelle configurations but have been sticking with the traditional layouts.

They need to get some of the canon ship designers like Drexler and Eaves to design ships specifically for STO.

I was thinking they need some real first contact missions like from that episode where Riker was discovered as being alien. You have to go down to a planet disquised as a person of that world and do a few missions then invite them to the federation as it were. Have those hides like in Insurrection and that one with the proto-Vulcans. I would enjoy that.

After trying to login multiple times over multiple days, I finally got logged on for the first time today.  It took multiple times get my character created (without the system erroring out) and I was having a lot of problems doing simple things like selecting options/colors.

So now I'm doing the tutorial and all the sudden, the system logs me out saying, "You were automatically logged out, because you were idle for more than 0 minutes."

I have never seen such buggy software released for public use in my life (and I've done IT for over 20 years, some of it doing software development and even working for a software comany for 10 years.)

Ouch...try filing a support ticket. If you don't get a response within a day or two, I can take that to the forums for you.

I did send in a ticket for the logon issue Sunday morning and they finally responded to me this afternoon, but it wasn't helpful.  Thankfully, I had been able to login a couple of hours before that, so I'm thinking they did something to my account earlier today to fix the issue.

And now I'm playing tonight on my second mission and the system kicks me out.  When I try to log back on, the logon server times out....

Might be an issue with your computer. Try playing around with the network settings on the game and/or your computer.

Nope - It's a server issue.  I closed the game out and restarted it and they have a message in a red box at the top saying:

"Currently, Star Trek Online is not available.  We are aware of the issue, and our engineers are working to fix the problem as soon as possible"

I think that's a recent development. But then, lots of people have been reporting server trouble since the FE series came out. Keep playing around with your network settings; that's pretty much all I can do for you in terms of advice. Would you like me to bring up your issue on the forums?
