Regarding 'Encounter at Farpoint' - I would agree. It would be about the same as many others though.

I haven't seen all the TNG episodes. I've seen about half of them. Out of those, my favorite is 'The Inner Light'. I also watched it the first time on a big screen (from a projector.) It really touched me, and actually left a lump in my throat. That's mainly because of relating to it so well.

I never really liked "Encounter at Farpoint", to be honest. The Q storyline just didn't merge well with the 'solve the mystery' story. Not a bad episode, but just unremarkeable.

"The Inner Light" was just awesome. I haven't finished the whole series yet, though - just finished "Time's Arrow, part 1".

In my case, having seen only about half of the TNG episodes is spread out over the whole series. So, some of each season I have seen and some haven't seen. I've for instance seen 'All Good Things...". A disadvantage this way, instead of watching them in order, is a case of "Oh no, which have I seen, and which not?". Would need to tick off on a checklist.

While it may not fit within many fans' top 10 lists, I would say Encounter at Farpoint was decent when you consider that it was a series premier.  They had to establish 9 main cast characters, what the ship could do including saucer separation, and oh yeah, throw in a story.  That can be rather challenging.

Encounter at Farpoint...didn't like that episode much. I personally thought it was a pretty weak premier episode.

But some of my favorite episodes are "Inner Light", "I, Borg", "The Best of Both Words", "Time's Arrow", just off the top of my head. "Offspring" was good too.

I really don't think I could narrow it down to just one episode.

I thought Encounter at Farpoint was one of the most godawful pieces of crap that I had seen in a long, long time.

I now think that while it's not the worst, it's still pretty damn bad!

The biggest problem I now realise was not the story so much as it was the production values. (Acting ranging from wooden to unbelievably melodramatic-- Troi and Yar both guilty of sudden emotional bursts that let's face it completely lacked credibility, Q absolutely butchering Renaissance English, terrible pacing...)

Luckily Next Gen. did get a lot better since then.

I like Data's Day, The Drumhead, and quite a few other episodes.

That's kind of what I wanted to say, but it didn't come out quite like that.

"Tapestry" was THE best episode of TNG.  IMHO.

"Inheritance" is another good Data-episode. I adore Juliana Tainer.
