Star Trek

Look, the episodes were written and aired in 1994, it is now 2012, and the story took place in 2024.  We have 8.4 million out of work in the US, who knows how many foreclosures, the rich getting richer...the middle class getting less in the middle and more towards the bottom...Europe is in a financial mess...isn't California broke?  I just watched "PT1&2" and I thought "This could happen today."  Is it just me?

I think there have already been a couple of threads about this. I would have to say that out of all the potential 21st century sci-fi dystopian scenarios that I have come across as a lifelong sci-fi fan, Past Tense is one of the most eerily close to what looks like happening.

Maybe Trek just got the setting wrong, not the time. Look at last year's Arab Spring. There's some interesting comparisons to be made.
