Who likes the old Excelsior-class of starship? They served for decades as the flagship for Starfleet. I love their design and would much prefer a new Excelsior-style ship to the Sovereign-class.

I used to hate the Excelsior design, but I've since warmed up to it (though I still hate the refit version seen in "Generations"). Still, those ships are pretty old. I think it's time they were retired and replaced with something like the Intrepids or Akiras.

The Excelsior design is my all time favorite out of any Trek ship. I would love to see more of it. But At the point where the films and Shows have taken us they have become obsolete. Maybe they could make a show that takes place in the TOS movie era. Then we could see more.

They are my second favorite class of starship (right after the original Constitution). It was such a gret design it became the Enterprise-B and they served the Federation for 100 years.
I think the class earned a rest. After all, we saw the in the TOS movies, TNG, VOY and DS9. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

While I realize that the original Excelsior-class ships are obsolete, Starfleet could build new ones, using that basic design. Of course, they would incorporate the newest technology. But, I think the same overall exterior design could be used, in new ships.

Wait, what exactly are you asking here?
If you're wishing you saw more Excelsior-class ships in the existing Trek series? Then I'd have to point out BamBam's post, as we saw a TON of them during the Dominion War ship battles. And it seemed in Seasons 6 and 7 that two or three Excelsior-class ships were permanently assigned to DS9 (as they were in all of the establishing shots).
But if you're wanting a new Trek series to focus on the crew of an Excelsior-class ship? Well, I wouldn't hold my breath.
BTW, I'd have to say the Excelsior-class is my favorite Starfleet vessel as well. (I also like the Defiant-class and Constitution-class.)

It would be nice to see some new Excelsiors in a new movie.
Looking at their design, I would suggest replacing the Excelsior-class's Main Bridge with the Main Bridge of the Galaxy-class ships. I like that bridge design better.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! don't replace the bridge. The bridge how it looked in "The Undiscovered Country" is amazing. The Galaxy class bridge is one of my least favorites.

when was it ever said that the Excelsior-class served as the flagship of the fedarastion/starfleet?
Only ships named ENTERPRISE have been called "flagships" in starfleet, so sure the Enterprise B being an Excelsior-class would have been a flagship, but who knows how long that ship was in servise?

I think what he meant to say was 'workhourse' rather than flagship.
As far as I'm aware, there's never been a such a versatile design in what we have seen in Starfleet. No other ship has been so massed produced AND lasted so long.

What about the Miranda-class? We saw one in WOK, and the Excelsior wasn't introduced until TSFS. Both were last seen in DS9 "What You Leave Behind".

Star Trek is all about progress. As much as I love the Excelsior class ships, nothing, in my opinion beats the Sovereign class as the Enterprise-E. In the beginning of ST:TNG, there were many Excelsior class ships as the basic design. Star Trek is moving forward and as much as it pains to me to say this, Excelsior class ships should now be obsolete as much as constitution class in the 24th century series.

You're right about Star Trek and progress, EvanJ.Guzman. However, what if Starfleet collected 5 or 10 of the most-popular ship designs and analyzed them. Perhaps some similarities among them might be found, and these could then be incorporated into newer ship designs.
Also, does Starfleet have a Hall of Fame for such ships? If not, they should.
