I agree that Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner are great actors, but i think Gates McFadden is AMAZING!!!!!

Overall I would have to pick Patrick Stewart. He was incredible with the mind meld,being held captive by the cardassians and tortured....he was absolutely amazing! I also have to give Jonathan Frakes credit for his role in the episode Frame of Mind, he was absolutely amazing.

Patrick Stewart was the best regular cast member,
of course. But there were a LOT of FANTASTIC
guest stars who were - and still are - truly
great actors.

I've got to throw another vote in for a Stewart/Spiner tie.

LaVar Burton, Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn and Jonathan Frakes were already pretty widely recognized for their acting abilities at the start of TNG.

That doesn't disqualify them, but one TNG semi-regular character who kind of "earned his stripes" and gained fame and importance as a direct result of his work on TNG itself is Colm Meaney, who, of course, went on to have a successful acting career which continues through the present.

I think it's worthwhile to add Colm into this conversation.

I hate to be so diplomatic but in this case I've got to say that every single member of the crew was perfectly cast and it's impossiable to imagine anyone else playing their roles. In terms of who was technically the best actor that would simply be down to who had the toughest scenes, to which I would say Brent Spiner when he had to play Data, Lore and Soong all in the same scene. That was seriously impressive!

I think Patrick Stewart. He was pretty even-keel most the time, but when he wasn't it was some amazing acting! Also, I have to give Michael Dorn some props for his comedic one-liners, whether they were intended to be that way or not.

I say Brent Spiner but Patrick Stewart, John De Lancie, and whoopi Gulberg were great too.

Patrick Stewart is my first instinct but Brent Spiner plays my favorite character of all times so its a hard choice.  I guess it would have to be a deadlock between them.

Oh, Stewart and Spiner are obvious, I also really admire Frakes and Dorn and.. I really thing the TNG cast (the regular one) is GREAT and there is noone who acts less good.
Concentrating on recurring stars can be much more interesting! I really find Dwight Schulz as Barkley PERFECT. The woman who played Ro Laren (I can't remember her name right now) is incredibly good, especially in the last episode. Oh myy!
