LOOK..I got that Captains DVD, Where Bill Shatner interviews the captains from the Tv series and Chris Pine from the new movie, in that DVD (I'm sure most of you got it) When Shatner was interviewing Avery Brooks, Brooks was relating his thoughts in his own language while playing a piano and sometimes singing which was cool, apparently Shatner being the NUT that he is didn't understand where Brooks was coming from, so when he got on stage at some convention he said something like Brooks was crazy, Shatners got alot of nerve after all the dumb things he's done in the past, I've seen Avery Brooks quote Shakespeare-Othello, from memory, he's a great actor, he's a taught at Rutgers University, Shatner barely knew his lines when he was doing Trek, and those dumb songs he did on his wacko albums made him seem like he was on some type of heavy drugs, well to me it seems like he did seem disrespectful to Avery Brooks who was kind to him, who else thinks so ?

Avery Brooks was stonned off his gord in the Captains. That's why he was singing like that. He is a bit odd you must admit. Avery didn't attempt to sing  "Rocket Man" or "Keep It Gay" so he's two up on Shatner but he's still a little out there mannnnnnn.

NO..No Avery Brooks is a very deep thinker and his words are from conscientious thoughts from a higher plane, Shatner's problem is that his ego is as fat as his belly, and he loves to play the fool.  

Ah. So you can get this on DVD now? I have wanted to watch this but have never managed to come across it. The few sites that seemed to carry it would not let it be viewed in territories outside the USA - so I was stuffed.

I'll look out for it now

Despite how deep of a thinker Brooks may be, those of us who bought the DVD wanted to get an interview with insight as to the experiances of being the lead on a demanding show like Star Trek. I can appreciate you being a fan of Brooks and not enjoying Shatner's past anticts, but the man was trying to conduct an interview and Brooks just kept singing and playing music. I got nothing out of that interview, and in fact found it admirable how Shatner kept trying to to bring him back to Earth to have an interview, which was the purpose of his visit.

I don't blame Shatner for his comments about Brooks later on. I would have made the same. Despite all his acting accomplishments, which I am not dismising, the man was a bad interviewee.

I got alot from that interview, maybe you should watch it again, Brooks express the reason why he took the role and how it affected his personal life, you got to realize that not all Trek actors will not  get all giddy when they're interviewed about Star Trek, as I recall Nimoy and Shatner forgot about it after the series ended, Brooks had a career before and after Star Trek he didn't have to do the   series for money, he did it for the positive image it showed "Brown people" in the future, and unlike Shatner who thinks of himself and Captain Kirk as Gods, Sisko was a way better Captain than Kirk.

The film was not really about "share your experiences being a captain on Trek." It was about a man (Shatner) facing his own mortality and seeking validation that a legacy built on a "silly sci-fi" show was worth it in the end.

I mean, watch it again. Especially the bits with Stewart and Mulgrew.

Personally, I believe Brooks just wasn't in the same place as Shatner, and continues to have a bright outlook. Note his continuous piano playing and attempts to get Shatner to sing along with him.

Sure, Brooks might have been stoned. But based on what I've seen of his personality in past interviews, I think he would have acted quite the same sober.

Yeah, I just don't think Brooks takes the whole Star Trek-thing as seriously as Shatner and the other "captains."

I suppose I'm just not a fan of Sisko, his command style or Brooks' style.

It's actually surprising to me since one of the quirk's Kirk has that I like the most is the pacing of his dialogue, and I swear Brooks multiplied that sucker at least by 3 in some scenes.

maybe, just maybe, Bill Shatner understands the comedic value of Bill Shatner calling anyone else crazy because of their singing.....

Yeah, Shatner maybe jealous of Brooks because he can't sing as good as him !.Er."ROCKET MAN"

Now think about it, the man that portrayed Cpt. Kirk reciting,"and all the science i don't understand. It's just my job six days a week."

For the most part I have to agree with you here. I understand Mr. Brooks is a bit....eccentric and I like him as well as his character Sisko, but my opinon matches yours here overall.

LOVED Stuart and Mulgrew's interviews. I thought it was funny when she gave Shatner the "Janeway stare" when talking about college and acting. 

Same with Scott Bakula's interview. You get the sense that he ha nothing but admiration and respect for the franchise and is a true grade A good guy. Even when Shatner handed him the ball to diss the Enterprise finale, he didn't do it, isntead he simply admitte that his show couldn't capture the magic he wanted to convay from TOS. Seeing him admit that with just a hint of sadnes in hsi voice made me wish more than ever that his show hadn't been cancelled so early.
