So I just started playing today. and I was wondering how do I get a new starship? Do I have to buy the credits from the c-store or can I earn them for completeing missions?

Most ships are earnable in-game using refined Dilithium. However, each new rank you reach earns you a free ship. There are some bonus ships in the Cryptic Store you must use money to get, but those aren't neccessary to advance in the game.

Rank: Ensign/Lieutenant

Light Cruiser - your starter ship, includes Miranda, Centaur, and ShiKahr-classes. Free, but you can't get a new one if you decommission it.

Rank: Lieutenant Commander

These ships all cost 15,000 refined Dilithium.

Cruiser - includes Constitution (movies), Vesper, and Excalibur classes.

Escort - includes Saber, Rapier, and Ushaan classes.

Science Vessel - includes Nova, Aurora, and Quasar classes.

Rank: Commander

These ships all cost 40,000 refined Dilithium.

Heavy Cruiser - includes Cheyenne, Dakota and Stargazer classes.

Heavy Escort - includes Akira, Oslo, and Zephyr classes.

Research Science Vessel - includes Olympic, Hope, and Horizon classes.

Rank: Captain

These ships all cost 80,000 refined Diithium.

Exploration Cruiser - includes Galaxy, Celestial, and Envoy classes.

Tactical Escort - includes Defiant, Vigilant, and Gallant classes.

Long Range Science Vessel - includes Intrepid, Cochrane, and Discovery classes.

Rank: Rear Admiral

These ships all cost 120,000 refined Dilithium.

Star Cruiser - includes Avenger, Vanguard, and Emissary classes.

Assault Cruiser - includes Sovereign, Noble, and Majestic classes.

Fleet Escort - includes Dervish, Gryphon, and Hermes classes.

Advanced Escort - includes Prometheus, Cerberus, and Phoenix classes.

Reconnaissance Science Vessel - includes Luna, Polaris, and Sol classes.

Deep Space Science Vessel - Destiny, Oracle, and Trident classes.

Also bear in mind that even if you buy a ship, it will not be available to you in the shipyard till you reach the appropriate rank to use it.

Can you be more specific? What comes up when you click "buy ship"? Are you on a C-store ship by mistake? Or maybe a ship above Liutenant Commander?

Okay, one of three things may be wrong:

- you have either the Cruiser Refit, Escort Refit, or Science Vessel Refit selected. These ships have to be purchased from the C-store for real money.

- you have a Commander-level or higher ship selected.

- you may still have something left to do in the promotion mission. Go to the mission journal and click "in progress" to see what's still left to be complete.

Also, does any error message come up when you click "Buy"?

You get a hail from Admiral Quinn, who invites you to meet him at ESD. There he officially promotes you, and lets you claim one free ship.

I accidentally dropped a mission (I was having problems with sending provisions) and I'd like to see if I can get it back.  Is there a way to do this?

You can get Boffs pretty easily. They go for a couple thousand Energy Credits on the Exchange, or you can buy them for Dilithium at Earth Spacedock. You also get them as mission rewards for a short while, and every couple of levels.

You can restart it, but your progress in the mission is gone.

By the way, you can get provisions from your ship's replicator (open "Inventory" and click "Replicator"). They cost Energy Credits, though.

How do I restart it?

But to use a new one, I have to discard another?
