Hi, I just wanted to ask those who've watched the whole TAS series - in what order did you watch the episodes?

The reason i ask is that, just like my TOS box sets, the TAS episodes are not in production order on the disks - it really irritates me that they do this, as with TOS it's really important to watch them in production order to see the characters, storylines even uniforms etc develop.

In the case of TAS however, i was wondering if it was as important - i must admit i just started watching it today - i simply put Disc 1 in and began playing - the first episode was 'Farthest Star' which i really enjoyed, but it then occurred to me to check the production order - i then watched 'More Trouble with Tribbles', production no1, which i also really enjoyed.

But watching in production order does of course mean chopping and changing discs all the time, so i just wondered whether people thought it was worth it in this case, with the characters and ST universe firmly established - eg do any of the storylines/characters pass over from one episode to another?

Not sure why no-one replied to this, but anyway am simply working my way through the DVDs as is simpler, still happy for comments though

I never much worried about that. Not all Trek shows air their episodes in production order.

And even the first TOS box set has it's discrepancies, showing the first televised episode (The Man Trap) first, then it has the 2nd pilot (Where No Man Has Gone Before) as the second episode in the collection. Why? I have no clue, but I know which came first so it doesn't bother me.

as i said above i made sure to watch TOS in production order, as you can clearly see it develop almost from one episode to the next, especially in the early shows

I always watch all series not in production order but in the order they were aired. Sometimes an episode was made prior to another, but aired later. I think it is best to watch them as they showed up on TV.

The closest you could come is by order of production number, which is not quite the same thing, since a lot of the animated episodes were being put together at the same time.  Only once was the entire cast together to record their dialogue (half the time, Shatner recorded his dialogue into a tape recorder in between takes on whatever movie or tv show he was working on at the time).

^ Which makes for another argument for why TAS should be considered canon.
