1: You’re irate over the president taking so many vacation days on the taxpayer’s dime (61 thus far), but you thought George W. Bush earned every minute of his leisure time (196 days at the same point in his presidency).

2: You’re happy with your 40 hour work week, paid vacations and company-provided healthcare, but you’re strongly anti-union, because those commies haven’t done anything for you lately.

3: You strongly support the First Amendment and its guarantee of religious freedom to all, but you don’t think Muslims have a right to build an Islamic Community Center in Manhattan.

4: You believe Ronald Reagan was a devout Christian, even though he hated going to church, but any president who spends twenty years going to the same Trinity United Church in Chicago must be a Muslim.

5: You believe when a Republican governor creates a healthcare package with an individual mandate for everyone in his state, that’s a good idea. But when a Democratic president does it, suddenly it’s unconstitutional.

If a conservative doesn't like guns, s/he doesn't buy one. If a progressive doesn't like guns, s/he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, s/he doesn't eat meat. If a progressive is a vegetarian, s/he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, s/he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. If a progressive wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, s/he quietly leads his life. If a progressive is homosexual, s/he demands legislated respect.

If a person of color is conservative, they see themselves as independently successful. Their progressive counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, s/he thinks about how to better his situation. A progressive wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, s/he switches channels. progressives demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, s/he doesn't go to church. A progressive non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative decides s/he needs health care, s/he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A progressive demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative slips and falls in a store, s/he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed. If a progressive slips and falls, s/he grabs his neck, moans like he's in labor and then sues.

A simple difference really, by definition:

A Conservative desires to keep the status quo, a Progressive wants to change it.

The question is...  what does the progressive want to change it to?  What is the end result?  Walking away from the status quo of the US Constitution is the "change" that the Progressives are pushing, and that's not a good thing.

Conservatives don't necessarily want to keep the status quo on everything, but they do want to keep the US Constitution as the supreme law of the land and not usurp it.  The Conservatives like new technology, etc.  Sometimes the status quo should not be changed, but some should.  Change for change's sake is not necessarily good.

That can't be be right. In the UK the Conservatives, Labour and LibDems all squabble over being the most "progressive".

/ Also Margaret Thatcher was the greatest reforming prime minister we've ever had.

you might be a...... if......

a conservative NEEDS their way all the time and wastes money as long as it isnt their own. then complains when things dont go their way.

a progressivist wants their way all the time and wastes money as long as it is for a cause they support or from taxpayers. then complains when they dont have money for necessary things.

a liberal (me) can't ever seem to get their way and wastes all their money trying to get theirs when there really isnt enough money to go around. ....and then finds new ways to complain about why there isnt any money. (me)

That can't be the case, as many progressives are conservative.
