Star Trek did not pertain to just one country or race, it was a federation of planets.  Is that what you ment clover?

Well Calling them Nasty communist goes against Star Trek as a show. Star Trek clearly being a communist show. With many communist principals. But also I don't like calling the soviets or the chinese Communist because actual pure communism which is what Star Trek's principals are based has actually never been practiced.

I tend to shy away from the one-on-one analogies between sci-fi nations and real nations, since it is potentially problematic in its representation of "goodies" and "baddies", and also tends to cheapen the creativity in imagined cultures.

Well yes a lot of the episodes and films. "The Undiscoverd Country" have a very cold war feeling to them. I was more just talking about the basis of behind the thinking of Star Trek didn't mean to push any buttons.

Also all Sci-Fi usally comes from a basis of it's time period. With some kind of hidden meaning wrapped in space ships. The original series is full of them. The latter series had a lot less.

Wile the Roddenberry Ideal was, (as people have previously noted), was a “pure communism”, (i.e. no rich no poor, no currency), If you look closely at the Terran and galactic political system you can easily see a correlation that Earth represents a unified group of states, (i.e. the U.S.), with the federation a representation of the UN, and the remaining “empires” representing the remainder of the present day Earth.

From what I understand the bridge crew of TOS was intentionally set up to show national and international diversity. This is clear when you factor that James Doohan is Canadian (fake accent) and Walter Koenig is American and specificity asked to use a Russian accent to represent an end to the cold war.

Wile I am not sure if the other variations took similar steps but at least the crew was meant to represent other nations. As far as alien races being analogous to specific nations, Wile it is easily to draw correlations between, I am unsure if it is intentional, but could very well be a result of the writers trying to make the political nature of meany of the episodes make sense to the general public who have become used to the extreme sociological differences dictating our political system.

I should also be noted that Gene Roddenberry regularly defended his show from accusations politically innuendo in the show, meany episodes are obviously politically motivated. And in some cases it has come out retrospectively, that the writers did, in fact, intentionally use political innuendo in their writing.

Ok that is what I was thinking. Last week my history teacher started to talk about star wars and politics, and I knew that Star trek had some but I just came up with a few.

Thanks
