>In one of the episodes, I can't remember which, maybe in season 4, there is a brief mention of the Cardassians. So, like with the Ferengi and Borg, would be out of place - anarchonism.

Sorry, but your 100% wrong on that.

Even if Archer went to Cardasdsdia Prime, or even Bajor, it wouldnt be out of continuity/place with the trek history.

Reason being it was never mentioned when first contact with the Cardassians or the Bajorans was made.

The main reason Enterprise died? Not enough viewers, it's all about the allmighty ratings. I blame us, the fans first. But more than anything, it is the ones at CBS studios we should blame. If they don't see a future in a genre that has spanned back to the 60's, then to Grethor with them. There IS a demand for trek, the men who hold the purse strings must see past the one failed show and give Trek another chance on TV.

The Cardassians were mentioned by the Organians.  I do not recall any other mention of them.  There was no indication that StarFleet had any contact with the Cardassians.

As for the Ferengi, as already mentioned, were not identified by species. The Last Outpost was stated to be a first contact, but with just some unnamed pirates in an isolated incident 200 years earlier, I don't think any harm was done to the continuity.

Nice catch! Though he technically wasn't "dead". "Assimilated" (not the Borg!) would be more accurate.

Their minds were linked to the station's computer to the point where they were irrecoverable. T'Pol also said their neural pathways were damaged as a long-term result.

I thought we made first contact with the Ferengi in 1947...

I was asked to write a 4 page essay on any subject of my choosing. I wrote about why ST Voyager is by far better than TNG and DS9, and that Voyager is Star Trek at it's best. And you can quote me on that!

>I think there are largely 3 reasons why Enterprise failed. (And failed is a strange word here, any tv show would be thankful and considered a success after 4 seasons on the air!!!!) First off let me state that when it first came out I was not a fan. Since then I have rediscovered it and completely fell in love with it. So much so that is now my favorite of all Trek. Love the series, love the books. A great collection of characters that never got a real chance.

>1. TNG, DS9 and Voyager did not hit their strides until Season 4. Enterprise hit it's stride in Season 4 but a failing UPN network and no one willing to back up an expensive sci fi show did Enterprise in.

>2. A lot of fans were upset that it went back in time, I was. I thought they were following in the footsteps of Star Wars. And though I like Star Wars, in my opinion Star Trek is a much better franchise and I took it as a slap in the face as a trekkie to follow Star Wars.

>3. I think people were getting a bit tired. After all there was s 20 year gap between TOS and TNG. TNG overlapped with DS9 and DS9 with Voyager. Had UPN or any network for that matter waited 3 or 4 years for a new series, I think it would have done much better. Though the actors may have been different, and I LOVE the actors they picked. I could not think of anyone else playing any of the characters aside from who they picked.

>I have heard it from other fans that their first opinion of Enterprise was not a good one but when they went back and rewatched, they really enjoyed it.

>Archer, T'Pol, Trip, Reed, Travis, Phlox, Hoshi and Porthos. A great crew that should have been given more time.

>

It's funny you should mention the need to have waited 3 to 4 years before doing Enterprise. That is exactly what Rick Berman told Paramount. He told them we need to let the franchise rest for a few years and then come back strong.

From what I understand Paramount demanded a new series to begin immediately after Voyager, and basically told Rick, either he could give them a new series or he could turn in his resignation. Then when Enterprise failed exactly like what he tried to tell them would happen if they didn't wait, they blamed the entire thing completely on him and fired him. Pretty fair huh?

Of course they didn't want to get blamed for it. But they were. I just know that ultimately I am glad that it was made. Though I regret it being on for 4 years and I regret Trip dying.

I saw mentioned earlier that the Romulans having a cloaking device at that era did not fit at all and I agree. I had a problem with the use of phase pistols and rifles. I believe the  TOS Cage episode is still canon in which they used laser weapons. Go back a century before that episode  and they are using phasers and photon torpedoes?? The torpedo design (at least outwardly) looks like what was being used in the 24th century?  I also has a small problem with them having transporters but that was just one of my pet peeves. I think a more retro approach in some tech areas would have worked better.
