love Janeway, not a big fan of Kirk, Sisko or Archer, Picard's best in the TNG films and Riker's okay in the Titan books

I can't really say that any one of them was "best", but I can say who I like best. Here's my list in order of like.

Kirk first because he is The Man.

Archer second because he's a pioneer. And he's hot.

Janeway and Picard tied for third because I like them both pretty well, but I don't know which one I like better.

Sisko is last because I know the least about him.

She was filled with strength, determination, love for her crew and for Star Fleet, and a great sense of exploration. What would you do if you found yourself 70,000 lightyears somewhere you didn't know away from family and everything you called home?

She took care of her crew, explored, gave her crew a sense of family and support, and did it alone.

There was no nearby Star Fleet support, so she had to explore just her and her crew.

She took on the Borg, species 8472, and always pulled through.

She helped Seven of Nine recliam her humanity, and she was always there when someone needed a friend, a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to talk to.

I think because of that, Captain Janeway has got to be the best Star Trek Captain.

All were good captains,  Kirk was a little too full of himself. Picard was too stiff and stuffy. Sisko was a jerk plain, pure and simple. With the exception of Jadzia, he had a tendency to talk down to and treat his people with contempt. Bashir seemed to pick up the brunt of that. I don't think that I could offer the same blind devotion that their crews did.

Janeway, is sure of herself, sometimes to a fault but she is far more willing to accept her shortcomings. She is far more devoted to her crew on a personal level making her someone I could more easily reciprocate loyalty too. Janeway also sees potential in people when no one else can or will. Tom Paris, B'Lanna Torres and Seven of Nine come to mind.

Archer is much the same as Janeway though not as willing to accept his own human failings. He doesn't come across as full of himself or his self importance as the other three male captains did. He is strong when it comes to letting his crew know of their importance to their mission.

Of the five, I would be most comfortable serving under Janeway.

I agree with the toss up between Janeway & Archer.  Janeway was on her own for 7 years but had the technology and the techniques of 200 years of the Federation.  Archer could return home except for the 1 year he was on his own in the Delphic Expanse, but with weaker technology, and needing to figure out the techniques that would be used by the Federation.  Then Picard, then Kirk, then Sisko.

>When you take into account what we are presented with onscreen (whether you agree or not) doesn't Janeway getting a lone ship through the Delta quadrant while fighting off enemies, still taking time to explore new worlds, and did it all with no federation and starfleet support make her the greatest captain starfleet has ever produced?

>1) Janeway
2) Archer
3) Kirk
4) Picard
5) Sisko

>I know a lot of people will gripe about this since there seems to be a lot of hate for Janeway, and yes there were some inconsistent things on the show, but in the universe of Trek she really did go where noone had gone before and performed above and beyond.

>

I absolutely agree with your Janeway sentiments. Not only that, I believe she embodied the spirit of the Federation, Startfleet, and humanity more than any other captain. Honestly, is ST was real, I would serve under any of the captains, but Janeway is the only one I'd follow blindly into hell itself.

I totally agree!! I don't understand why there's so much hate for Captain Janeway. I mean, granted Kate Mulgrew wasn't the best actress, but she's the only person I'd have play Janeway. My biggest dream is to serve under Janeway!!!

Janeway for what she did with no Starfleet support, as OneDamnMinuteAdmiral points out.  As for the order of the rest of the list, I'm not so sure I would have Picard in 4th, but there IS a lot of quality on that list.

Janeway made me feel comfortable and safe. So did Picard. Kirk was a wild card a fun to watch. Sisco was too trek jazz. Archer... new territory gave an uncertenty to his comand.

Picard only comes in 4th based on what we are shown onscreen. Janeway, Archer, & Kirk were exploring unknown (at the time) areas of space. Picard, in most of the TNG run, was within the Federation borders for the most part, with starbases and support ships on call and fairly close by mostly. My particular ranking is not in anyway a comment on his skills.

And Sisko did discover the wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant but he rarely went there opting to stay on the station.

1-Kirk

2-Janeway

3-Picard

4-Archer

I wont include Sisko. He was the commander of a space station, where as the others commanded starships. Apples and Oranges.
