A way to keep Kes on the show

Look, some of us felt Kes got a raw deal and was booted off the show so that cyber-sex pot 7of9 could bring in ratings, WHY ?..Why couldn't the Borg assimilate Kes, Janeway saves her, remove her implants and make her half Borg and Ocampa, Kes could wear the silver catsuit and we wouldn't need 7 of 9, GREAT IDEA, right ?who agrees with this ?

I must be in an alternate universe. In my universe the show has ended several years ago.

Nah, the suggestion about Kes becoming a Borg and then a "sexy babe" is too complicated and not really necessary. They could have added Seven and let Kes stay anyway.

Who'd let that cat in here?

There is also the matter of Ocampa having shorter lifespans.  Would you really want some convoluted story to keep her around.  I hope I don't give any writers any ideas here, but what if to keep her around, Paris took Kes on his warp 10 shuttle flight, and had her age reset when she was brought back to being a mammal?  Yes, I realize the idea is pretty moronic, but that is why I said I hope I don't give any writers any ideas.

Here's another idea.  Why not keep Kes just the way she was?  Why not fully develop a truly non-human  character?  Why not show the full arc of a persons life including a natural, non-violent death?  The ST series had many virtues but none showed the latter.

Agreed. Kes could have been there along with Seven. It's a little known rumor that Harry Kim was supposed to get the axe and then they opted to axe Kes last minute because Kim's actor, Wang was voted one of the sexiest people of that year and they thought it'd hurt the ratings more.

Kes was getting sexy in the last few episodes she was in and finally getting awesome development. If you weren't a Kes fan by,  "Warlord", you were by then. Kim became useless by fourth season and should have been axed. I liked the character before then, but he lost his purpose.

No that would be too conflicting, fact is if Kes would had become a Borg with her enhanced telekenesis we wouldn't need 7 of 9, maybe then they would have her kill Harry Kim, and Voyager would be unique then.

Back when Voyager was on, I watched it weekly. I guess I had my head under a rock because I didn't know that "Kes" didn't want to leave Voyager, I thought she wanted to leave. They should have found a way to keep her on, even if it was less air time. She fit well with the crew and her story was an interesting one. I did like Seven though liked the idea of a Borg without the collective living on her "own". I for one liked the character of Harry, he didn't bother me at all. Some of the things he did got me nuts and the fact that he always "picked the wrong girl" was just stupid. And when I first watched Voyager Neelix didn't bother me, it wasn't until later when I saw the episodes a few more times did he get on my nerves. It would have been nice to see Kes grow "old".

It was a big shock to them all that Jennifer Lien (Kes) was getting the axe. Kate Mulgrew has been very vocal on being upset over the decision in nearly every interview.  Jennifer Lien from interviews I've seen and read gave no inclination or desire to leave. Originally, Garrett Wang (Harry Kim) from what I understandand read was going to get the axe. He was constantly showing up late for filming, etc. and in some ways became a liability on the set, but he got voted as a pretty boy by a famous magazine and it was decided to keep him for ratings. So...Kes got the axe. Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) was slated to come on board before the decision to axe Lien. I love Seven beyond the torpedos inside the Star Trek bra, she really is a great character and I love her dynamic with Janeway. It's sad to see the character and her actress take the heat for Kes' leaving.

It's a shame, just as she was getting some nice development she got the boot. Kes had to warm up to me a bit. I started liking her by the end of the first season. Her hair irritated me the first two episodes, lol. But, I gradually started to love Kes and hated to see her go. I really think she could have been given a better exit. "Fury" was dissappointing, but at least we got to see her again. I don't see why they don't bring her back in the Voyager relaunch novels. Remember that group of Ocampa that found a way to prolong their lives? Perhaps she ran back into them and learned how to live longer? Or simply, because she was so highly evolved, perhaps she exists on a higher and deeper level and has a prolonged lifespan? Either way, at least in the novels, bringing back Kes technically is plausible.

I agree with most of what is written in the post above. The lifespan problem could be solved with some help from the Ocampa on Suspiria's array, The Voyager Doc or Q. According to "Cold Fire", it was possible to prolong her lifespan.

And yes, it was unnecessary to dump the character and downright rude to destroy her the way they did in "Fury".

I had read that about Garrett Wang from a previous post you had. I guess my head was still under the rock! Did you read the Dark Matter series? Kes was in them very briefly....I liked that she was there but the way they did it just annoyed me. Why bring her in if you really have no intention of doing anything with her. And the hair, I agree with you. I also wasn't crazy about how they had Tom develop a crush on her. I enjoyed her and I thought that she was a calming force even during chaos. As I said, nothing against Seven, she was brilliant and it was nice to see her grow. I wish they had a way to leave them all there.
