> Finally, I just want to say that TOS and DS9 are, by far, my favorite Star Trek series. I also like TNG, but never go out of my way to watch an episode. And I don't think I've ever really revisited VOY or ENT.

Driver,
You make very good points. I think to some degree we have some evolution, if you will. DS9 built upon the solid framework TNG built enabling them to go the serial route. Just like TOS provided the ground work for TNG to have a universe to tell a story in.
This is one reason why Voyager seems more disappointing than it was. They didn't seem to build upon the fine qualities of DS9. Instead, it went back to episodic tv and "flatter" characters...even "Flotter" ones unfortunately (Voyager watchers will get that joke).
TNG had some serious story-line integrity issues with time, anti-time and what they went through but it was so well-conceived that I comfortably looked past those issues.
The final scene is terrific for All Good Things. The camera revolves around Picard as he reviews each of his crew and their significance in his life. He seems to like where life has finally brought him with them. He then deals the cards and says something like, "the game is 5-card stud, nothing wild and the sky is the limit". All the while the view from over the poker table morphs from the table to the saucer section of the Enterprise. This sends the message that these people played a serious game with their ship and their travels and "the sky was the limit!" Priceless!

Ok, here is my top DS9 episodes. As you will see, I have 24 and not 10.
Now, I am a real structured kind of guy so I had a process for this. I haven't memorized all of the stories and episode titles like the rest of you who have seen them many times. So, I reviewed the thread of this board starting at the beginning. If the episode was Very Good or Great then I put it on the list. I would insert it over the episode that I thought it was better than and pushed everything else down.
Here is what I ended up with;
1 - The Visitor (I know...big surprise!)
2 - Siege of AR-558
3 - What You Leave Behind
4 - The Defiant
5 - Improbable Cause / Die is Cast
6 - The Search
7 - Call to Arms
8 - Sacrifice of Angels
9 - Change of Heart
10- Jem Hadar
11- By Inferno's Light
12- Trials and Tribble-ations
13- Changing Face of Evil
14- Way of the Warrior
15- Rocks and Shoals
16- Little Green Men
17- Image in the Sand
18- Time's Orphan
19- Paradise
20- Duet
21- Tears of the Prophets
22- Shattered Mirror
23- In the Pale Moonlight
24- Honor Among Thieves
There you go! I'll do a bottom-10 list tomorrow.

Hey, Jim
Okay, I am intrigued. I think I'll start watching Enterprise. I really want to see the episodes about Data's origin! Also there is always more Star Trek to come. What about the new movie that is coming out?

Wow! Congrats Jim, you finished!
I've been following every post and thread on here. So sad it's come to an end. Please let us know if you review another ST series on here. I know you already did Voyager.
I don't want this thread to end. The commentary between you, Logan and Driver has been particuarly enlightening to read and I will miss the daily notifications that there is a new post on these boards!
Also, what is everyone talking about the boards being hacked? Did something happen to the website? I've been able to view all these posts no problem.
I must also admit with what others have said in regards to that final episode. While I enjoyed the finale of TNG a lot, it didn't hit me as emotionally hard as this one. There is just something about it. Hard to explain.
So, I'm curious. If you were going to rate all the series' out of 100% where would you place them? I only own TNG and DS9 and I can't quite decide which one I like better. They are pretty much on par.

Hey, Worfsbum. I think I was the one who mentioned "hacking." But really, it's just the inordinate amount of spamming/hacking that often temporarily prevents access to some of the boards.
It's ultra-annoying. It's frequent. And for years, this kind of thing never used to happen.
Anyway, apparently a combination of (a) "bad behavior" going unchecked in some of the Ten Forward threads, (b) these spamming/hacking attacks, and (c) the implementation of these new captchas has driven many fans away from StarTrek.com.
And did I mention I now cannot even gain Boards access on my desktop for some reason?!? (I have to use my laptop to gain access.) And I have no idea why...

I wasn't that crazy about the last movie. The actors absolutely nailed their parts. They were awesome. However, I didn't like the story. I didn't like the new Enterprise and I don't think much of JJ's directing. He gives me a headache with all of the shaking of the camera. It's all he knows.

Thank you worfsbum. It has been a good ride. I may do The Animated Series soon. I've already seen TNG, TOS and ENT too many times to review those.
Yes, Logan and Driver have helped me dig into deeper meanings of many of the episodes. They were extremely helpful. I know Trek real well but I know if I am ever on jeopardy and Star Trek is a category then I hope Logan isn't playing against me. I'm good but I'm not that good.

Thank you for the complement.
And if you're ever on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" and the topic is Star Trek, you can at least know what friend to call.

BEWARE! SPOILER OF LATEST BATMAN MOVIE IN THIS POST!
Tonight I took the family to see Batman. I thought the previous Dark Knight was BRILLIANT! This one...not so much. It was WAY longer than it had to be.
Of course, Tom Hardy played the evil Bain. Tom looked like he put on 30 pounds of muscle for this movie. Anyway, the story behind Bain is he spent years in an underground prison where he was badly mistreated by other prisoners and the guards. It caused him to become a bitter and evil person.
Sound familiar? It should. It is the same background story of the character he played in Star Trek Nemesis, Shinzon. In that story he was imprisoned on Remus in an underground prison.

Hi Jim.
I really enjoyed your reviews of my favourite show ever. I did not agree on everything, but did find your reviews to be accurate, in general. For example, i do like the Grand Nagus. To be honest, i must say that it's only on the 3rd rewatch of the show that i started to like him. You really must ignore the horrific voice to do so.
DS9 is a show that gains to be rewatched, i did it 5 times already. Every time i finished watching the whole 7 years i wanted to start over, immediately. I had to force myself to watch something else.
That last episode, man, i have tears in my eyes, every time. For me it is a much better finale than the TNG one. It's more emotional, it's a closure.
Anyway, it was a great ride and i thank you for it.
Hugues

You are welcome "Frustrated".
Tonight, I was on Netflix and took a quick look at Star Trek TOS. I watched Doomsday Machine and was very pleased to see that it was remastered with all new special effects. They were fantastic! I may watch through TOS watching just my favorites.

Thank you everyone for joining me while I watched DS9. I am glad I did it.
Just to let you know that I've begun to see The Animated Series. I am up to episode 7 (though I am not doing a formal review on Star Trek.com like I did for DS9 and Voyager).
I am pleasantly surprised by TAS. The stories cover some surprisingly mature storylines...and they really have to pack in the content given it's a half-hour show. One recent episode had Spock going back in time to see himself at an important time as he was growing up. We got to see Sarek as a young(er) father.
Majel Barrett seems to play every female that is not a regular. Checkov is not on the show but every other regular is.

Hey Jim and or Logan (or anyone else who can help)
I know the thread is done, but didn't know how else to contact you guys. I have the trilogy you recommended (Star Trek Destiny by David Mack.) I've finished the first book so far and will move on to the other two soon. I'm enjoying it. I also managed to find "A Stitch in Time" by Garak's character.
I was wondering if there were official star trek canon books you would recommend. Some people have criticized a lot of Star Trek books to be absolute rubbish or "non canon." How do you know which books are reliable?
I heard the new Romulan war books were OK but I have no way of knowing if they are considered "canonical"
Would appreciate some insight!! Or more book recommendations! thanks so much.
