Can anyone tell me the TOS or TNG episode that had the captain putting a force field around aliens on the bridge just by using glances to others on the bridge?

It was TNG season 3 Allegiance.

When you watch the episode, you may notice the StarFleet cadet uniform is much like the cadet uniform in The First Duty in that it was all black except the shoulder had the department color (although I think the collar was different).  But in The First Duty, they seemed to all have red while this one was yellow.
