What if HBO bought the rights to Star Trek TV franchise?

everytime i stay in a hotel, or visit a friend that has HBO it is really cool. hey have won many awards for the great shows that they produce. And with it being on pay TV, HBO could do some really cool things that can't be done on regular TV.

just a thought.

As much as I love HBO, I don't think ST would fit into their programming philosophy. If it did the show would probably look like "Boardwalk Empire" in space and then it wouldn't be the Trek I know and love.

AMC maybe...

I've said something similar a long time ago. I would give it a chance. I do think it would allow for more freedom to explore the ST universe in a more sophisticated way. However, many expressed concerns about ST no longer being family friendly.

I don't really consider ST family friendly (if you examine the plots and topics carefully), but feel it's content was limited due to the time period it originally aired and that it was on free TV. I'm 1000% sure that GR would have taken more risks if he could have.

I think it would work.  If I had to choose someone to reboot the Star Trek franchise or remaster the others and show them on TV, it would be (besides CBS) HBO!

My thoughts for starting a new series.  Assisting Spock with the Red Matter to save the Romulans is the Enterprise (the one after Nemises) with Wesley Crusher as the cheif science officer.  After the black hole is formed and the two ships go back in time, the alternate timequake comes thorugh, leaving the Enterprise ? and crew alone, but not the planets.  The second science officer is then revealted to be the Traveller, still teaching Wesley.  At this point, Wesley's mission is to build the ST: Enterprise Time War headquarters to rebuild the timeline.  They build the timeline closer and closer to the original, then they discover the Red Matter black hole is the one that threw Kirk back into 1969.  They intervene to prevent kirk from putting the tractor beam on the F104 fighter jet and the enterprise is able to leave without all those messy interactions.

So? I'm not looking for porn Trek, but ST has explored adult themes on every series. Sexual and non-sexual. People seem to have fuzzy  memories of ST being like Full House in Space or something.

I would support it. Star Trek and its ideals have always seemed "above" the trappings of commercial tv, where the $ is the bottom line.

I say that with no knowledge of the way HBO finances, approves production or the revenue it expects.
