Ok. So my most favorite scene in First Contact has to be the one where Beverly is in Sick Bay, and Lily has to be woken up. She calls Alyssa to take Lily in the jeffreys tube, and says, "I swore I'd never use one of these! Computer, activate the EMH." Robert Picardo appears and says the usual, then after Beverly explains the situation, he says, "I'm a doctor, not a doorstop!" SOOOOOO FUNNY!!! My favorite scene ever! Especially after having watched Voyager. I also like the one where Deanna's drunk, and she says that Cochrane is nuts.

When Lily called Picard "Captain Ahab".

Great analogy.

It's disappointing that people would pick goofy comedy scenes as the "best" in such a good film.

The confrontation between Picard and Lily in the briefing lounge is the best scene in the entire TNG franchise. No technobabble, no special effects, no fanwanky crapola...just powerful acting by two terrific actors, great writing and direction, and a HUGE turning point for the Picard character.

I've been thinking about this question, and honestly I don't have a favourite scene. I just like the way that all those moments fitted together to make a good movie.

The funny moments were clever and funny. The dramatic moments were quite telling, and... dramatic -- for want of a better word. And they all contributed well to the final product.

I most definitely wouldn't think of the Ahab analogy as comedy. In part it may have inspired me to read Moby Dick. I like all of the above, and many other scenes besides. It really is quite difficult to pick a stand-alone favourite.

It confirmed my respect for Alfre Woodard and James Cromwell -- that's for sure.

The opening scene with Picard remembering his experience on the Borg cube...held so much promise that it would be a big expansive film...but sadly it quickly retrograded into a slightly better the average TV movie.
Deanna faking drunkness and the ridiculous poorly done space walk scene totally ruined it for me after that.
The Ahab this was contreived at best.

When Picard asks for anyone to speak up against his disobeying orders by engaging the Borg ...

the loyalty and commaraderie there was really good stuff.

Well we weren't asked what the "best" scene is, but rather what our "favorite" scene is. I like the take a leak scene, first because it's just plain funny. Secondly, it highlights the the ever changing nature of language.

After that my next faveorite is the launch of the Pheonix with the use of "Magic Carpet Ride".

The matter of "best" is one of personal taste, its going to differ depending on who you ask.

Really?? I honestly had no idea. I thought there were specific objective measures we were applying to this discussion.
