I think Quark is absolutely fabulous.

I especially liked him in the Klingon episodes dealing with Grilka, one of the hottest Klingons around.

It was a breath taker that they took the Ferengi out of the 100% cartoon stupid corner. In TNG the Ferengi were a joke, completely dumb and stupid. For a realm over 1000 years old The Ferengi Alliance sure can play dumb, and it was thus very refreshing to see a normal Ferengi instead of those TNG morons.

They have in lore always been considered to be a major faction in the universe,... and it was great to see Quark to personify this.

I think the Grand Nagus undid it all though. Where Quark appeared to be a more normal humanoid,... the Grand Nagus was a moron too.

If there ever will be a new series or a movie that will have Ferengi in it.... I sure hope they will model them more towards the Quark character instead that of the Grand Nagus.

Yes. I believe that up until DS9, Ferengi were portrayed as ONLY a nefarious race who put the acquisition of latinum above all else. I think Quark, (and Rom and Nog), complicate that. Quark isn't easy to like. He doesn't mush over on us and turn into a human. He is Ferngi. Through him we learn about their people and traditions and values and over the course of the series those are put to the test through Quark. He is an important character because he isn't all good or all bad. He is proud and flawed and funny and often selfish but sometimes not. I like him.

The Ferengi in DS9 did give some greater depth to the Ferengi culture compared to the Ferengi in TNG, but I just wish they would have at least occasionally shown the side we saw in TNG in some DS9 episodes.  DS9 completely ignored the ships.  Obviously, they were focusing on other things, but I just don't think they should have completely ignored the TNG side.  It would have been interesting to see the interaction between the stationary merchants & more aggressive pirates / privateers.  It would have made sense for Zek to have had a military escort.  Also, during the war, it would have been interesting to see some Ferengi ships involved.  They would have wanted to protect their financial interests, and were established to have been estimated to be generally equal to UFP ships.

Is it just me, or is the relationship between Quark and Odo kind of similar to Spock and McCoy?

It's not the easiest comparison, but I can see in a very broad sense, especially after the Dominion war started & they often ended up on the same side, but still annoyed each other.

Quark is fun.  Love the suits.  He is great at business enough to make a profit - to afford the suits I guess.

I could see Quark and Odo in an episode (or movie) like Abbott and Costello.  Funny stuff!

I enjoyed the episodes with him in them. He added a flair to the series. without him it would be like not having Sisco.

DS9 was my favorite of the series, especially episodes focusing upon Ferengis period. A Quark episode was and is always welcome. I know they are greedy little creatures/species, but Quark had some Humaaaan in him atleast ya know ?

He's a magnificent scounderel, to watch.  If I lived on DS9, though, he wouldn't be one of my best friends...

I really don't like Ferengi very much, but Quark made me laugh a lot. Mixed feelings here.

I thought the Ferengi were laughable as characters, until Qark. I don't know how much in put Shimmerman had, but every Ferengi that came after followed the model set by his character.
