Quark was a special person.  He could be typically Ferengi, when it came to business, but he often contributed above and beyond, when the situation called for it.  And, I think many of the officers on DS9 did not treat Quark with the respect he deserved.

Also, imagine what DS9 would have been like without Quark!  How boring would that have been?  I hope he will be a prime character in any new DS9 series or film.

Not only do I like Quark, I love almost the entire span of Ferengi characters. Especially Grand Negus Zek. Wallace Shawn (actor who played Zek, as well as many great characters in cinema and theatre) played the character perfectly. People were supposed to find him revolting and annoying. The fact that so many people dislike his character only proves how well he was portrayed. Now to redirect my rant back toward Quark. Without Quark, it would've been impossible for the show to express such extreme dislike for financial corruption. They used him to represent the greed and corruption in all of us. Using the episodes that gave us all a glimpse at his "humanity," to show that such greed can be reversed. Quark is a lovable antagonist that should be respected for his role.

I agree with Cdr White.  Quark's role is definitely a challenging one because he varies from being a shallow pest to comic relief to a genuine character.  He's also a good example of frenemy with Odo.  I love the Ferengi and always liked Quark.  Rom was the one I needed to learn to appreciate.  It seems like it took them several seasons to start making him more than a witless minion.

One of the shows better plot ideas is the constant interaction of Odo and Quark. It is a great contrast of the moral upright guardian in conflict with the pure greed and scheming of Quark. It provides a least a quarter of the plots of the episodes of DS9, and it never fails to disappoint. It is funny how close quark and Odo are. One could not survive without ther other. They really are best friends if you think about it.

Quark is the first Ferengi that I ever liked. I began liking him when he helped during an episode of TNG. He was almost a comfort to me going from TNG to DS9, a familiar face. I actually like Quark's whole family, Rom and Nog. Quark is an awesome character.

First off I really enjoyed Quark. He was a real entertainer.  I loved his relationship with Odo. Quark always knew how to get in and out of trouble and behind all of his ego was a very cariing character that I think lots of people could relate to.

I really think Quark kept the first 3 seasons interesting until Worf came along and the Dominion War was in full swing.

The whole ferengi storylines were a hoot espcially when Zek made appearences as well as his conflicts with Brunt.

Too bad he never appeared in a movie

That would be a funny movie, wouldn't it?  A movie about the Ferengi!

When evaluating characters I simply ask myself one question: can they fight? If the answer is no then the character is disposable. Do we want to see a snivelling weakling? A character who would sooner talk his way out of a dispute than punch his way out? Of course not! A character who can bash the living tar out of his opponent, show anyone who is boss, prove themselves to be physically superior with a single hit. Those are the characters worth watching. And so, by this criteria, no I do not like Quark. The only time he bested someone in a fight was by accidentally causing a drunken Klingon to stab himself with his own blade. If there was a time where Quark punched someone, floored them with his strength, I'd like to see it. But until that happens he will be getting no respect from me.
