I liked Quark because he was a pesky freak?

Quote: Matthias Russell @ Nov. 22 2011, 1:14 pm | >I really loved how DS9 developed the Ferengi in a way TNG couldn't. The way they used Quark in a way to humorously show how bad rampant, run away capitalism can get. Sometimes I felt they used the Ferengi as a way to contrast modern values with those of the trek-style utopia. Meanwhile, Quark grew more than most characters in the franchise going from a single minded profit chaser to actually being caring and moral. |
DS9 did give the Ferengi much more depth in development, but I think they were wrong to completely ignore the fact that the Ferengi had combat worthy vessels that repeatedly show up in TNG. Yes, they wanted to show a different side to the Ferengi, but there should have at least been the occasional Marauder.
I had my doubts at first. How long can they keep the status quo going when 2 of the major characters are an obvious criminal operating on the station & a competent security officer on the station determined to convict him? I liked the character, but I thought it was implausible how many breaks he got.

Quark was definately a pesky freak, but I love him. The writers did a great job developing the character. At first, Quark seemed like a dislikeable, manipulative jerk, but he developed over time into a well defined, genuinly likeable guy.

Quark was great. Little green men, The magnificent Ferengi.... Any episode featuring Ferengi was great.

Do I like Quark? Yes, and I happen to dislike Ferengi in general.
But I only grew to like him because of the Quark/Odo dynamic.

I don't think DS9 would be DS9 without Quark's seemingly endless pursuit for profits. I second your opinion in that Quark and Odo made each other great, loved their interactions over the 7 seasons.

I love Quark, he's the nemsis you'd hate to be without because he knows how to keep you on your toes.

Armin played him fabulously too. He was certainly one of the best actors on the show up there with Andrew Robinson (Garak), Jeffrey Combs (Weyoun, et al.), Marc Alaimo (Gul Dukat) and Louise Fletcher (Kai Winn) IMO.

Orginally, I didn't care for him, but he grew on me and I began to love him. I still don't care for Ferengis over all, he is my exception to the rule. Armin did and amazing job with him.

Nog was okay, Rom was a moron, but I guess I can't help but to like a lovable looser. Okay, I stand corrected...LOL. I know I can't be the only one who skipped the Grand Nagus episodes though....lol.

I hadn't liked Quark at all at first. A morbid preoccupation with money, adherance to stereotypes and smuggling. I liked him a little better after the episode where Bajorans terrorists created an indiscriminate artificial virus that crippled thee station and he helped Odo. I liked him further after that when his former Cardassian lover showed up and he demonstrated a bit more depth than plain monetary psychosis.pi

The Grand Nagus episode isn't so bad. It's fun to see Quark in over his head and paranoid. Plus the Godfather scene is a nice touch. It's too bad the Nagus is so annoying.

Love Quark. He improved Ferengis. And who doesn't love the banter between him and Odo?
