Since Star Trek Enterprise takes place in a parallel universe different from the one that TOS, TNG, DS9, and VOY takes place in, does the explaination for the differences in the Klingon appearances (smooth forehead versus ridged forehead klingons) apply ONLY to the ENT universe or both the TOS TNG DS9 and VOY universe as well????

Star Trek Enterprise is done in the same universe as all the other series, the only difference is that it comes before TOS. There are alternate reality episodes as with the other series but other than that it is in the same timeline, just before the others.

But to the Klingon question, I would take it that explains why Klingons are "normal" from Enterprise than without ridges in TOS and than back with the ridges in TNG on up. In a DS9 episode, "Trials and Tribble-ations", Worf said something to the effect that it was a long story as to why the Klingons of Kirk's time looked different from current Klingons. The real reason was never stated in that episode, just eluded to the fact that there was a story. Once I saw the Enterprise episodes it gave a more solid explanation. Makes sense to say that is the reason.

It makes to say that's the reason because that's the canon reason that was given.

The only thing that bugs me is that if Star Trek:Enterprise takes place in the sam universe as TOS, TNG, DS9 and VOY then how come on the refit Enterprise in the recreation room we see pictures of all the ships named Enterprise EXCEPT for the NX-01????? (I KNOW THE REAL REASON OBVIOUSLY, I MEAN THE REASON IN THE STAR TREK UNIVERSE)

If you stepped into TMP during that part maybe you would see the NX-01 instead of that other ship that we see on screen. I wouldn't be surprised if they digitally changed it eventually since they never go into detail aside from all these ships were named Enterprise.

As for the Klingons I really didn't need an explanation but the Enterprise reason was pretty good,

Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

I have a theory on how the Klingons appearance may have changed. Recall in DS9 when O'Brien, Worf and the others went back in time to correct the timeline on the K-7 space station? Worf and the others are in the bar just as the TOS Klingon is insulting Chekov and Kirk, then the Enterprise. There is a line there which Worf tells O'Brien and the others there are Klingons in the bar. The others ask him are you sure those are Klingons. Worf says yes, the others ask what happened to the Klingons. Worf has a pained look and says we don't talk about it. I think that the Tribbles caused a severe reaction in the Klingons and it changed them physically. If you recall the end of the TOS episode Trouble with Tribbles, Scotty beamed all the Enterprise Tribbles into the engine room of the Klingon vessel. Now, if those were fruitful and multiplied like they did on K-7....then the Klingons would have a starship full of Tribbles.

^ That makes NO sense. Imagine if the Tribbles were the key to restoring their turtle shell foreheads, why would the Klingons hate them so much? They would probably praise the creatures for undoing the physiological damage done to them. From both Worf and ENT we know the Klingons were ashamed of their TOS appearance.

And how the heck would the tribbles efect their appearance? They didn't do anything to Humans or Bajorans.

I was reading a Star Trek documentary book once. I can't remember much of it. There was a section trying to explain that. It said something to the affect that the human-looking Klingons (another species) lived near the outer rim of the Klingon Empire. So, they were the first ones to go out and encounter humans, and so on. Later the other Klingons (with the ridges on forehead), who lived more at and in the vicinity of the home planet, went further out and had nore encounters than those others. And, humans had more encounters with them. Eventually the human-like Klingons took very much a back seat.

I'd add (from Trials & Tribble-ations) also a case of some Klingons being altered to look human. And then later - that falling away. That's especially due to not really having a necessity for that anymore.

Maybe it was not considered fashionable.

Perhaps a group of Klingons took drastic measures to get rid of those ridges. . .

I heard somewhere it might have been some plague or something, but then I don't know everything.
