Quinto came out?? Anyway, Kirk and Spock are not gay. Just look at almost every Original Series to see that Kirk's straight. And I don't know about gay Vulcans, but Spock's straight too.

They are not gay! It's ridiculous that people think they are.

I just watched "City on the Edge of Forever". Yes, Kirk was trying to get it on with Edith Keeler. But he and Spock were sharing a room, and there was only one bed in that room. Think about it.

Pooneil u think about it Vulcans don't really sleep and it's possible there was another bed but the camera was at mostly one angle the whole time! and another thing, Edith Keeler seemed very sensible is there was only on ebed in that room i am sure she would have given them seperate rooms

*it's logic*

Men can love each other without being homosexual. Kirk and Spock are a fine example of this. They are brothers, not lovers. I show no disrespect to the fans who like to THINK they are. Volumes of fanfic have been written on the topic. But, it's just fantasy. I actually think it's kind of sad that people can be so narrow that they assume two men who are extremely close MUST be gay.

Also, as many have pointed out, they both had their fair share of women interests.

Yeah, but they always caught each other on the rebound. What are friends for, right?

Obviosly they're not... but it would be funny if they were because there's no surprise in that!

In cannon universe: not a chance. In some mirror or other AU? Sure, why not? Anything is possible....

I am not opposed to any Trek character being gay, actually I think it's long overdue, but Kirk and Spock haven't even skirted on the fringe with even bisexual tendencies in the almost 50 years of Trek existence. I can say the chances of one of these characters being gay in cannon universe is next to nil.

But hey, that's what AUs and fanfiction is for. If that's your cup of tea, have at it.

Are Kirk and Spock gay? According to what's been shown on TV and movies, no.

However, I am highly amused that folks seem to think their respective "lady counts" serve as some sort of proof. Orientation, gender, and sexuality varies according to culture and time. There are males and females in western cultures TODAY who engage in same sex relations who do not consider themselves gay. And certainly in older cultures (e.g., Greek and Roman, but plenty of others) where records exist, sexual activity and orientation (as we define it today) weren't static (e.g., someone could have a wife, a mistress, and a male lover, and still not be considered bisexual/homosexual as we understand it today).

The only reason folks get their panties twisted over the matter is that some perceive such a relationship between the two to be wrong on a moral/religious level. It would tickle me if some sort of lost diary of GR's were found where he admits they were lovers but he couldn't explicitly portray it because of the times. I wonder if some diehard fans would lose their minds!

In "I Love Lucy" there were two beds. Are we to assume Lucy and Ricky did not have sex?

LOL

I wonder how many fans they'd lose after a revelation like that?

I'd love that! I think it's preposterous that people try to inflict their views, religion, etc. on entertainment and then get all bent out of shape when something happens on the show, book, etc. that's against their views and inflicted perceptions of the characters. Why not just enjoy a form of entertainment for what it is and leave it at that?  What I believe is what I believe, I don't expect anyone or anything else to conform to it and don't get my panties in a wad over it. I am secure enough in my own beliefs and respect the differences of others. And for the record, no, I don't think being gay is wrong, etc.

Many of these people who get bent out of shape of gay characters, etc. seem to forget that Roddenberry himself was an aethiest and he intended for there to be a gay character in TNG. Actually, he promised there would be one in the following season before he passed away and got the debut of Ro Laren. Many believe she was supposed to be the promised gay character, but whether it was because of Berman and Braga or Paramount themselves, the promise never materialized. Of course Trek also famously deliverde the first interracial kiss, which was a big hoo hah back then and considered just as "wrong" as gays are now. Some people sadly still have that backwards mentality.

If Kirk and Spock were revealed as gay in the cannon universe- oh I would enjoy every moment of the fan reaction of that, lol.
