That comment kind of reminds me of how Chekov is always saying "The Russians invented it."

>Worst stereotype ever? A Frenchman who drinks Earl Grey Tea, is obsessed with the collective works of William Shakespeare and rides horses with an English tack.

>They didn't get the stereotypes even remotely right!

>Oh wait.  He sings Frère Jacques.

>

Oh yeah.

The real travesty with Picard is that people expect him to be a French stereotype -- and complain that he is not.

The complaint isn't that he's not a French stereotype (my jokes aside).  The complaint is that he displays a long list of English stereotypes.  Which, let's be honest: even in the 24th century, no self-respecting Frenchman would do.

I Borg'd yo mama last night. She found it very assimilating.

I wasn't thinking of you Peeps. It's just something I hear so repeatedly, and yeah the idea of Picard talking like the French guy from Holy Grail is quite a funny one. Otherwise it strikes me as a little ridiculous since English people can like Indian food, and Japanese are often partial to Western foods etc. It's a matter of taste, and I would still hold that he drinks Earl Grey simply because he likes it.

I thought the Klingons got a pretty rough deal in the early shows...

If they had gone that way, Picard might have handed him over to Maddox for that "an obscure language known as French" comment.

Uh, yeah. Inwented. BTW, I like Chekov. He's a cool character. And as I've said before on other threads, I think he's way underrated.
