Shattered Mirror. Ya know, they are really killing the idea of the alternate universe. They've done to many and they are among weakest DS9 episodes.

Yeah, I think killing off the Terran Empire was the worst thing they could have done. I mean, we're up to our armpits in Klingons and Cardassians in the prime universe, and when we finally get to the "backwards" universe, we get...more Klingons and Cardassians.

I love Klingons and Cardassians, but I think they were overused.

*Strange visual image of being "up to one's armpits" in little miniature Klingons and Cardassians*

Me too it's quite a decent story.

I'm just at the end of Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges. One of me faves!

I liked it to, but it was an obvious rip off from the novel.

Never read it. (Don't intend to.)

But anyway, here's from Memory Alpha (because I was curious.)

"The original idea of this episode was that Jake, who has been established as an aspiring writer, would have experiences similar to those of Ernest Hemingway during World War I. There were also a number of homages to other outside influences included; for example, the scene with Jake and Burke in the trench bears a striking resemblance to a scene in the 1930 Lewis Milestone film All Quiet on the Western Front. The story is also partly based on the 1895 Stephen Crane novel The Red Badge of Courage"

It seems like the kind of story that, once written, is bound to bear some resemblance to other stories on a similar theme. It's never going to be such an "original" story, thematically speaking. But I guess your reaction would depend on the extent to which you are willing to forgive any similarities. Knowing that there are less than eighty possible different plots in fiction (some people argue that there are less than ten. Joseph Campbell says there is only one.) I'm sure this can be forgiven for its use of source material / homages.
