I have wondered the same thing. As explanation, I have always thought that any change in skin color was only temporary, and could not be maintained permanently.

Because (in his own android way) Data loved Noonien Soong and looked up to him (as a son looks up to his father, or creation looks up to his creator). he didn't want to change himself, he's perfect the way he is. (I refuse to say was. HE'S NOT GONE!! HE'S NOT!!! )

I always figured he never wanted to change himself. Plus, he looks absolutely fine the way he is. And, Trekkiegoat, I agree with you completey!

I agree with you! (I was lauging so hard when he had the beard!)

lmfao!
But the real reason that Data couldn't change his skin to look more human was because the writers needed a plot device for Data, beyond what his positronic matrix could come up with

Ladies, while I don't approve of wymin loving on machines, even if it's Data, I dig the fact that you love TNG - almost as much as I! My preference would've been if Brent Spiner had been the mold, the voice and the puppeteer of a cool Stan Winston robot used in place of an actor with carnival makeup on. They didn't want to go that route, unfortunately ...

The beauty of Data was that he exhibited more humanity than most humans ever could. He is (or was) essentially striving for the one quality he possesed most. I grew up learning from TNG watching it with my mom until she passed and she would always make sure i paid attention to Data (and Jean-Luc!). The irony is that I ended up learning much about my own humanity and he nature of humanity itself from a made up android on a TV show! I will never forget Data, he was like the Guru that i never met but could always rely on to guide me through my own struggle with humanity (and the lack thereof in this world today!) and instilled in me the belief that human beings can learn compassion and truly realise how to grow as individuals and respect others from any source, even if that source is a funny looking yellow-eyed android on a TV space drama! Thanks for everything Data, Brent, Jean-Luc, Berman, Roddenberry, Frakes and whoever else who was involved with realizing and creating a world where peace and understanding are the guiding priciples that are followed, You've all truly shaped who I am today!
"The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based!"

Why, 2takes, I am surprised at you! You, of all people, should know that I always feature Data in my avatars. . .
