I wouldn't say that I cried my eyes out, but I was very sad. The episode first aired with I was about 5 years-old. I was a huge Yar fan because I thought she was awesome. When I played "Star Trek" with my toys, I was always Yar.

I disliked her from the moment she stepped out of line and ranted on about her childhood and blah blah blah. I was relieved when she was killed off.

I would've been about 13 when I saw it. On VHS, probably about '91 or '92 or so when I started getting obsessed. Had a slight crush on her, as well as Troi.

"Skin of Evil"
Well to see her in playboy was well worth the sacrifice. It makes me want to be Data that much more.

I was sad when she died despite that she used Data as a toy in Naked Now. She was one of the toughest and strongest security officers that the Enterprise (not bad for a woman)!!!

I was thoroughly shocked to see a host of powerul, leading women onboard the Enteprise at the outset of the show. I enjoyed it and wanted to see how the plotline would develop, even though in the first four episodes, Counselor Troi was more like an waling walker than anything. What would we have seen if Lt. Yar still stayed alive, would she develop feelings for Lt. Comm. Geordi or perhaps Worf?! How would Lt. Comm. Data "feel" about her after their misguided trist?

Yes, but, didn't he do that willingly, also, cherishing that?
|
He did enjoy it but that was because they were both intoxicated. Then after they got cured Yar said to Data, " It never happend." Even after that fact he still cherishes her in the Measures of Man episode. Then in Yesturday's Tomorrow Yar forgets Data andhas feelings for another guy instead.

I was not a huge fan of Yar. She represented an aspect of television I have a strong dislike for, that is, being an overly obvious placeholder for lessons to be taught (stay off drugs, look at what a world could come to without boundries and rules, etc;). At the same time, I loved that she was a strong female lead. That is prevalent in major female characters in all the Star Trek series, so it does not make her a stand-out. I do believe her death was important for Data's development, and that is why it had some significance for me. The funeral scene really does make me cry, but it was a relief to see her go. I felt like there was too much focus being forced on her, and the shift to other characters was needed.

I have to disagree here, I'm afraid. IMO, in the first season, no one but Picard and Riker (and maybe Data) got really focussed on. The others had one or two eps evolving around them, but were all in all more treated as secondary characters the way Sulu, Chekov, Uhura etc were treated on TOS.
And to this, Tasha was no exception. She (the actress) just lacked the patience to wait for it all to settle down. For in season 2 and onwards, the characters (all of them) get a far more equal share of storytime and character development.
If there is nothing wrong with me, then maybe there´s something wrong with the universe? -Dr. Crusher

I bet a number of us wish it was Wesley that got chopped... oh well.
I think they might have been afraid to explore her character much - she would have been a great choice to have that 'same sex kiss'.... that they eventaully did on DS9. Even though she had that little thing with that one guy who wanted her to be one of his wives, I wonder if they toyed with the idea of her character being bisexual. Yar had a very realistic lesbian-type style IMO. And we know since how often Trek has had alternate lifestyle storylines and characters.
