^ I don't see anything wrong with questioning a belief or a theory. When we think that our ideals are more important than other's, then these topics will go astray. It's not about religion or politics, it is about ourselves and how we perceive, receive and accept it or not. If we are at peace with ourselves then whatever is posted, won't affect us. Life is full of battles in here, out there, but the biggest one is with ourselves. keeping the peace could also be shutting down a voice to suit some despite other's.

>If I may give some advice: If you don't like the political and religon bashing in 10F, avoid it like I do. The admins are not going to address the trolling and baiting issues. I've tried for the past year to get possitive changes here but they just don't care and the more you participate in those threads, the more you play into the hands of the dueling trolls.
>
>If you want to topple this trend, as a member spend a lot of time in the trek based threads, commenting often. Get so active on those threads that the trolling 10F threads don't make the top 10 most active list on the board's front page. Don't play their game, and make the move yourself to encourage trek discussion.

Times are I kind of wish it too -- Would have been more easily able to avoid my peers that way! ^_^
Four of my cousins were homeschooled -- I don't know whether that was good for them or not, but they seem to have all grown up all right.
The "communist anti-homeschool" comment just came a little out of nowhere and struck me as being moderately weird.

>Wont the trolls (who are at 10F) just follow you to the trek based threads if that's where you all go ?
>Haven't some trolls been banned ? been at least 3 trolls banned that I've noticed since I joined (probably more that I've not noticed too) , so this means the admins are mederating 10F at least to some extent..

Some people who were previously banned from the site are back on 10F causing problems all over again.

Not an entirely awful idea. I'll admit I've only been around on these boards a couple of weeks, but it seems there is more discussion on religion vs science threads than Star Trek. The other part of me loves a good train wreck and will read the threads and post as I feel it is needed to keep fuel on the fire.

Y'know, my dad told me that there was a rule in the firehouse where my grandfather was a fireman: no discussion of religion or politics. They didn't want to create animosity or friction between themselves due to political or religious differences because they had to watch out for one another.
Seems like that might be a good rule here, since 10F seems to attract extremists on both sides.

It goes OK

I've been on message boards with similar rules, and it does lead to a better environment, particularly when the main focus of the board is a specific topic (films, sport, Trek etc....)

Yes they should be banned because certain posters simply do not know how to behave in a civil manner when another poster disagrees with their views. And these threads are almost always religious and/or political in nature. And I have noticed that most of the time a poster or two ends up banned when the dust settles.
I generally don't like strict censoring on message boards, but on here it is a necessity.

They should make it so that all ten forward topics must be approved by ADMIN.

That would slow things down so badly! I don't think Admin even looks at these boards every day.

I had asked the admins before to add an ignore function. On other boards that I post to I can ignore specific posters or entire topics. In addition, I believe Matthias Russell made a good suggestion to give a few stable regulars the power to moderate. This would allow trolls and posts that violate the terms of service to be dealt with quickly.
