School for me starts tomorrow, so no doubt other members (ones that are students) are either already at school or preparing. My guess is that on weekends and holiday breaks and stuff there will be more activity on here.

That being said, there weren't a lot of people on in late July and early August, or at least that's what I saw. And it doesn't help that we've had good members leaving because of trolling and stuff like that.

Many factors involved- some which have been mentioned already:

1. Trolling and flaming have caused many good members- friends of mine, in fact- to become disgusted and go MIA for a time... if not permenantly.

2. People have better things to do in the summer time than be online all the time.

3. School's back in- college, etc- folks are busy.

4. The economy is bad. People are too busy worrying about their 401k to be discussing Romulan battle tactics on a Star Trek forum.

For one thing people should avoid posting religious bashing topics and too much politics. That stuff is a real bore fest and has nothing to do with ST and or the spirit of fandom and friendship. For the most part its nothing but troll fodder.

This kind of stuff really turns off lots of potential fans est.

People really need to do something else if they feel bored and obligated to post those kinds of topics.

The trolls won't go away, they just keep respawning. Also, this is a star trek board but the most active topics are rarely trek related, they are inflammatory politics and religion threads. I don't know why trekbbs doesn't have that problem.

If the admins actually cared about this site half as much as members and monitored the goings on, it would be a much better place.

I totally agree MR.  I've complained several times about the lack of moderation on this site, but no one seems to care.  The troll problem and politics/religion threads are out of control here!  I think trekbbs avoids such problems because it's harder to make an account there (since there is the two week/50 post grace period to fully use the site) and because people on that site care and actively monitor content.  I've been spending less and less time here and more time on trekbbs.  In my opinion, there should be no venue for politics/religious threads on this or any other trek site.  If you want to talk about those subjects, go somewhere else.

Pretty much.

As far as political and religious threads go, yes -- there are a few too many, (People can contribute to an existing thread without having to start a new one most times) and maybe they do go too far on occasion, but on the other hand they're pretty obvious and you know what you're getting in for if you do happen to click on one.

And having nothing to do with Star Trek... Well, that's what "Ten Forward" is for.

A new Trek series will happen when a new Trek series happens. I think it's more important to wait for a good idea that's likely to last. Would you really want them to rush it?

I would look on this as a lull, perhaps. Not something super-serious. If you want to attract (and keep!) new members, all that people have to do is to keep having interesting conversations and to behave themselves.

Been quite a few of those belonging to 2 or 3 ex-LT members who happened to be very nasty and recivitist trolls that have been repeatedly banned recently only to create 2 or 3 new troll-dual accounts in order to continue their agenda of harassment and board sabotage and trouble making.

This was just in the last month or two, I can only imagine how bad it was before then since I wasn't here much before I decided to register and I've been told elsewhere it was even worse before and that most of these same trolls have been reinstated several times only to carry on trolling after being given multiple second chances by the board's administrators.

right.  Last month or so.

It's strange, being a catalyst for things that move outside.
