I love all of trek. If there is any scene that I would clasify as boring is the long sequence were the enterprise is entering V-Ger

All the TMP (except the transporter accident, it was one boring scene after another), the most of INS, and, well, there are some unwatchable episodes of TNG. (Haven't seen the DS9, VOY and ENT yet). In TOS, it were some scenes in Metamorphose and Deadly years (where they argued if they should take Kirk out of duty- which did not matter at all, they were going to die anyway.)

I'd say a lot of scenes in TMP. And of course, some episodes from all the series can have some boring scenes.

The Tediously long scene in ST1 where the Scotty is taking ADMIRAL Kirk over to the enterprise in the begining of the movie. They use the shuttle trip to the ship as an excuse to re- introduce the Enterprise. the whole thing is about 7 minutes long, I kid you not.

Kirk's wet eyes is the third best thing on Motionless picture (after the transporter accident and Klingons in the beginning). But the sequence, where everyone is staring at enterprise, and then camera pans on enterprise being stared by everyone and then again, was painfully long anyway.

On the contrary that was a beautiful sequence - designed to appeal to the fans - the first time we see the rejuvenated ship on the big screen. It was kid in a sweet shop time and I would guess most Trek fans lapped it up - I did!

You are both correct. Just with different views. Practical definitions of Boring and Sublime are rarely if ever objective.

Back in 1979 all Star Trek fans had ever seen of the star ship Enterprise was on small TV screens in TOS and TAS from a decade previously. Those views had generally been restricted to a few repeated key shots which were great at the time but limited in scope. Apart from that we had pictures in comics and annuals, and of course model kits etc. But that was it.
Therefore, the chance to see an updated and transformed ship was an absolute must. It was a gift from the studio to the fans. It was a here's your chance for a personal guided tour like we never could do before. It was an opportunity to show off the modified ship in all its glory prior to its disembarcation. Who hasn't stood at a quayside and been impressed by the grandeur of an ocean liner, all ready for its voyage?
Besides the importance of good storylines to science fiction movies, there is also the need for spectacle. And what better spectacle could there be than a flyaround our favourite ship of the line? The Star Fleet engineers and the movie producers had every reason to be proud of their work and why not show it off?
It was a chance to see the ship in close-up - in detail and at a scale we had never experienced before. To see areas we had not be privy to and to experience the full magnificence of its design, proportion and beauty. All of this on a huge cinema screen (I just wished we had had 3D back then!).
It was beautifully and tastefully done and personally I think it spoke volumes about the shared love fans and film-makers had for this ship and its crew. I fail to see how any Trek fan could be bored by such a thing. I would have been happy if it had lasted twice as long ...

I have to agree that almost all of TMP is boring. Since I was a child I could not make it all the way through that movie without falling asleep at least once. It takes multiple sittings for me to get through it.

>That scene of them showing the enterprise for 7 minutes in star trek the motion picture isn't as boring if you put yourself in the mindset of a star trek fan in 1979 where the original series had been off the air for 10 years then finally seeing the enterprise again.

At first I thought, wow, this is cool even now and better than a modern CGI. But after some time: Hey, I was impressed. But now it seems to be an eternity. Shouldnt the story go on? And then: They are kidding, arent they? Is not this going to be presentation of FX thrown between boring, boring conversations? And what is this about? This blue cloud is impressive, but what the heck is it supposed to be? Wouldnt be better to watch an animated gif with Mandelbrot fractal loop, or watch the laundry tumbling in washing machine?
I've slept 12 hours that day and woke up 2 hours ago, but I almost fell asleep again even while standing up. My dad turned off TV for a half a hour because of lunch, but when I turned it on, I realized nothing has happened in that time. Yes, TMP has good effects. But I do not watch ST for effects. Everything I loved on TOS, was gone. Chemistry between characters, humour, colours. Everything. Authors failed to understand, what was the charm of the original Star Trek (and they ruined my favourite friendship (Spock and Bones)). I was curious, what the characters were doing in the time after TOS, and why. Instead of it the er..story was focused on two boring new characters about who almost no one cares.
I was sooo happy when I saw TWOK and realised that Spock and Bones are back to normal and friends again. (I have seen the movies last year for the first time)
